Davina McCall's next move panic!

After Big Brother ends next year, how will the show's host reinvent herself?

Tuesday, 22 September 2009

Davina McCall was widely tipped to take Fern Britton's place on the This Morning sofa but Holly Willoughby snapped up the job.

Even so, Davina, 41, is determined to become TV's golden girl again. Last month, she hired a new PR agency to help in her battle and she's already changed management three times in two years.

A source tells Now: β€˜Davina doesn't want to be just known for Big Brother and having an amazing body. That's why she ditched her long-term management John Noel two years ago. She's hardly skint, but it's worrying for her.

β€˜She has huge commitments as she's just moved into an eight-bedroom Sussex mansion. There's talk she could even retire at some point and write natural childbirth books.'

Mum-of-three Davina has other positives on the horizon, too. She's putting the finishing touches to her sixth fitness DVD, which is out in January, coinciding with the start of Celebrity BB.

She'll begin Sky One's reality show Just Dance in the winter and she remains the face of Garnier.

Our source adds: β€˜To some critics, it seems like doom and gloom for Davina, but she has at least two big TV deals lined up for 2010. Her management are keeping tight-lipped, but this could be just the thing she needs to revive her career.'

Her spokesman says: β€˜Davina has numerous TV projects next year. It'll be a very big and exciting year for her without a doubt.'

See the full story about Davina McCall in Now magazine dated 28 September 2009 - out now!

Good evening all
Hicky
glad to hear the ankles have improved a little. Hope you don't have to wait too long for that scan. Thanks for the news. I must admit I was getting a bit tired of Davina on BB.

Emptybox... hope those winds didn't make you lose your hat today.
It has been drizzling nearly all day today, but like Hicky says, we are promised a high pressure, so hopefully that high will be timed for the weekend. It is the Elvis festival at our local seaside resort this weekend, so I am hoping for dry weather for all the visitors.  We love to go and see them all dressed up as Elvis. This year we have bought tickets to see the Elvis competitors, at only Β£5 a ticket, we thought it was worth going to see.
M
Hi Mollie.
I don't think the scan will show anything, I think it might be the little valves in your thighs that control the blood flowing up against the gravity, they stop the circulation from falling back down as gravity is pulling it.
But the valves in the muscles or veins get tired and can leak and not stop some from going down when it should be coming up.
That's the theory anyway, coming from the Doc.

We are having lunch out tomorrow at a pub/eating place by my O/H's sister somewhere over the other side of Liverpool.
It wil make a change.

I was a bit busy at work today, they had saved quite a bit for me to do.

Elvis eh, I'm sure I heard he had died, could be wrong, there's so many of them now.
Hope you get nice weather, it will be awful if it rains.
Hicky
Hicky
Glad the doc knows what he is looking for with the scan, it does sound complicated. But as you say, you did do a lot of walking all at once when you went away, so that must of been a bit of a strain for your ankles.

I hope you enjoy your lunch out tommorrow, that will be a nice change to go to the other side of the city. Will you be meeting up with your OH's sister?

Hope they didn't tired you out too much at work by expecting you to do all that work.

Last year when we went to the Elivis festival, my lad took my pic with various Elivs lookalikes, when we bumped into them on the seafront. There was a lovely pink cadallac parked on the seafront too.

Goodnight Hicky. xx Sleep tight.

And if Emptybox calls in, hope you have had a good day.
Is your tv working well now?
M
Hi Mollie.
My Ankles don't seem as bad now, i'm not on them very long now.

We are meeting up with O'H's sister and husband, will be eating with them.

It was busy at work,  but with BB finishing it doesn't bother me so much.

Have been trying to alter some ofthe pages on the company web site.
It's only a small html coded site that I wrote for them to help them out about 5 or six years ago.
It is hosted by bt's business section although i'm only using the free space provided for all customers of the service.
But for some reason the usual username/password wouldn't get me into the ftp site to change the files.
I was on the phone to their technical guys for a couple of hours, they gave me all sorts of rubbish, I told them I know where the site is and what files are used because I wrote the program and all the files.
They kept saying that the site wasn't hosted by BT, I said it was and has been for years.
In the end they could see the site and was telling me to use IE to talk to it.
I had all sorts of problems trying to talk to the site their way, I did manage to alter a cople of files, but when I called the web site up only one page would show with no gifs/images showing.

When I got home I checked again and found that some of the files have had the source code changed and the links to the other pages and gifs are pointing to the wrong directory, ones that don't exist.

So tonight I tried my copy of CuteFtp and by putting the info needed to talk to the web site I managed to connect and change a couple of the main pages using the source code and changing the links to suit the directories used.
So i've been able to change to the companies new base address.

Sorry for rabbiting on.

I like those big Pink Cadillac's though.

"X Factor" Finalists to Try Something New with Sainsbury's
FremantleMedia Enterprises, ITV and Sainsbury's have announced an online content partnership in which Sainbury's will act as exclusive food partner on the official "X-Factor" Web site.

Sainsbury's will provide this year's 12 finalists with cooking lessons to help ensure they eat well while living together in The X Factor house, where fans will be able to view what is happening online. The FME digital team will film the cooking lessons and the fun around the experience.

"We're on a mission to ensure that the finalists' culinary skills match their vocal skills," says Zoe Mclean, a member of the Sainsbury's Try Team. "When you're under a lot of pressure and leading a busy lifestyle, it's easy to neglect your diet. We are hoping that the Sainsbury's Try Team can show the finalists how a nutritious, healthy meal can be knocked up quickly and easily."

The Sainsbury's Try Team is made up of 12 food experts, who spend their days talking to people around the country about the benefits of healthy eating, while encouraging them to experiment with food and cooking.

Evening all.

It was very blowy in the middle part of the day, but was mostly dry here, and I got a lot done.

My TV is great Mollie.
In fact I think I'm watching it too much now.

I'm trying to work out a way to get a signal to the old TV which I've put in the bedroom. There isn't currently an aerial or satellite feed to that room, and I don't fancy trying to bore a hole through the wall to put a cable through.

It was easy when I put the satellite feed to the living room because the window has a wooden frame which was easy to drill through, but the bedroom has a uPVC window, so I would have to drill through the wall.
Of course, I could pay someone to do it, but the likleyhood is that I would watch that TV only very rarely, so I don't want to spend much.

I'm leaning towards using 5.8GHz video senders to send the picture from another box in the house, but they are quite expensive new.
I've bid for a second hand one on ebay for Β£40. Just have to wait and see wether I get it?

That all sounds very complicated Hicky. I haven't had much experience with websites or using FTP.
emptybox
Hi Emptybox.
It will be hard to not watch the big  TV, they are just so good, you need between 40" and 50" to appreciate them.
I would get bigger than my 50" if they were'nt so dear.

If you get the Rimax 5.8Ghz and a spare remote control you can use it remote just as if the Sky signal was on the remote TV.
You probably need a scart socket on the old set though.
I've got 2 sets which is a problem, think you should only have one.

E4 wants fact ent to fill Big Brother void

E4 is on the lookout for new British factual entertainment shows for the first time since Angela Jain took over as head of the digital channel.

Jain told Broadcast that with Big Brother ending next year she was looking to add factual entertainment to E4’s mix of comedy, drama and US acquisitions for 2011.

Jain said all of these genres would benefit from the β€œmillions” freed up by Big Brother’s demise but said it was likely that the channel would also air more repeats.

Upon taking over E4 in 2007, Jain scaled back factual entertainment and C4 spin-off shows to focus exclusively on comedy and drama commissions such as Skins, The Inbetweeners and Dead Set.

But she said she now wanted to find different ways of creating the β€œlive, event and entertainment” aspects of BB.

β€œFactual entertainment shows are notoriously hard to get right, particularly formatted ones. There have been budget constraints and I’ve had to focus my ambitions, but with the release of this money, I feel like I can do a couple of series in the genre now.”

The emphasis will, however, be on the β€œentertainment” aspect; E4 won’t suddenly be in the market for hard-hitting or overtly socially-conscious documentaries. β€œAnything we commission in any genre must have an element of fun,” she said.

Good evening all

Hicky... how did the lunch out go?  Hope you enjoyed the food, and travelling to the other side of town. Did you meet up with your OH's sister?

Emptybox... glad to hear you got plenty done in the dry weather, even though it was windy.  And it is good to hear you are pleased with your tv.

And the good news on our big tv, is that Dixons have agreed to pay the fixing charge of Β£160,  because they agreed that a Samsung should of not broken down twice within 2 years. So we are really pleased to have our tv back again, and are glad we will be getting the Β£160 returned, even though we did not pay out for an extended warranty. As you say Hicky. these big screens really are the best for viewing.

Yes since we have had our set returned, I can certainly agree, that indeed size does matter.

Hope they do not overwork you tommorrow.

I will have a quick tidy up in the morning, because a friend just phoned to say shei is coming over for morning coffee. She loves a capaccino from my capaccino machine.

My lad is enjoying his new college course, he has to do a web page for his first assigmnent, and he is chuffed because he is a mad on gaming, and he can design one round his gaming.

is you lad back from swimming in Spain now?

Hi Mollie.
Don't think i'll be too busy tomorrow.
Glad your Lad is enjoying his course, web page design is handy to get into.

I have just altered the companies sddress on the web pages which they wanted me to do.
But they really wanted me to design a new site but I have only played around with a bit of html for a hobby.

They have been getting some company to redesign a new site but it fell through.
I'm not going to do it because it needs using a different code than the code I use.
Which of course is a different code that I use when writing the code for what was my day job.

My Lad is back from Spain (Cadiz) He must have been in the England team swimming in the European Masters, I 'll be seeing him the weekend anyway when he comes with the kids.

Hi GrannyG.
Yep she is in the D-Star today, center pages (Not counting that annoying Sky advert), she is looking good as well.
She's doing a new photoshoot in LA.

I'll see if I can get some pics of her.

SHOW OUT OF STEP...

ABOVE: FIRED UP: Arlene launches her O2 show
24th September 2009

TROUBLED Strictly Come Dancing was under fire last night as MPs and even comic Justin Lee Collins joined the fray.

Lib Dem MP Lynne Featherstone told delegates in Birmingham the decision to replace 66-year-old choreographer Arlene Phillips with Alesha Dixon, 30, sent out a bad message about not valuing experience.

And Justin, 35, who used to host a Strictly Come Dancing spin-off show, called for 81-year-old host Bruce Forsyth to retire.

But he did back Alesha, saying: β€œShe is just as qualified, if not more so, to comment on the dances.”

Meanwhile, Arlene launched her new Latin-tinged dance spectacular The Sacred Flame, starring Wet Wet Wet’s Marti Pellow, 44, at London’s O2 Arena.

The show is due to start its run on December 28.

Hope you have all had a good day, and the weather has been as good in your part, as it has been here.

Hicky.. that is some achievement that your lad is in the England team.   Sounds like you have quite a bit of experience on web page design.  Hope they didn't overwork you too hard today.

Emptybox... glad to hear you had another dry day, and that your cistern is now fixed.

GrannyG... SugarBabes have had a lot of changes, haven't they? But they always seem to stay popular.

Had a friend come over for brekkie and coffee today. She has 2 teenagers, and her disabled elderly mother who lives with her, and who she is a carer for. Today her mother had a nurse carer for the day, so my friend was able to came over to me to get out of the house for a change.

Hope this Indian summer stays with us a while longer.

Hi Mollie.
I've been at work so the weather wasn't a problem, only saw it at 6.30 till I came home.
The problem with the Web design stuff is that I taught it myself, it's just a hobby so I never bothered to get any tuition or schooling.
I just write the code, which probably isn't done these days, they probably have a program to alter and design the pages.

Had quite a nice day at work, a few jobs to do, nothing too much.

Just had a nice big Pork Chop with some of my Carrots and Beans from the garden.
With some nice butter mash and some pepper sauce instead of gravy, very tasty.
Hicky
Evening.

There's no Indian Summer up here mollie. It's got very Autumnal.
It was dry again, but quite chilly and windy, and the sky was overcast with spitting rain at times.
Still I got me work done.

Not sure I'm keen on Chantelle's new hairdo Hicky?
But always nice to see photos of her.

I may have to change my opinion of my new hedge cutter.
I was cutting some hedges today, and it was very difficult to start and then very tempramental.
It did the job in the end, but I hope it's not going to give me trouble as well?
Perhaps it was just a one off. A bit of dirt in the fuel, or not quite the right 2 stroke mixture or something?
emptybox
Good morning all
Hicky
glad to hear you had a nice day at work yesterday. Your pepper sauce with your dinner sounds a nice change from gravy.   Do you have any plans for today?

Emptybox
Glad to hear you managed to get a bit of your outdoor work done, even if the weather was not ideal.

That pic of Chantelle doesn't look like her at all. As you say Emptybox, she has changed her hair, and something else looks different too. I prefer her hair when she has it not quite so blond.

There is a definate autumnal chill in the air today.  It was lovely to be able to walk nice and quick with the dog today, and not get too hot, for once.

Time to peg out all the sheets now.
M
Good Morning Everyone.

Hi Mollie.
I had the rest of the mash and cabbage fried for brekkie, yummy, with some sausage and bacon.
No plans for today, but I might go into Birkenhead to see if I can get a new frame fitted to my safety glasses from SpecSavers.
I keep them in my jacket at work but the case is a soft one and the side arm tend to get bent, no idea how, but if i'm walking in the factory I have to wear them.

Hi Emptybox.
I like Chantelle, she's done ok so far, it's hard to find a good feller these days, well it seems the way.
Hope your hedge cutter stops playing up, if it's not up to the job best take it back and tell them it's not fit for purpose.

Sun apologies and pays Lily Allen Β£10,000 damages

25 September 2009

The Sun has apologised to the singer Lily Allen and paid her Β£10,000 damages plus costs after falsely claiming she made offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Ashley and Cheryl Cole.

The singer sued the News International title after it reported, in May, comments attributed to her by magazine, So Foot.

The Sun story, headlined β€˜Ranting Lily’, falsely attributed claims that she called Victoria Beckham a "monster" and The X Factor judge Cheryl Cole "stupid and superficial".

Allen said she never made any comment to the French football magazine. Her lawyers, Atkins Thomson, also issued proceedings against that title.

The Sun ran an apology to the singer on page 14 of today’s paper and online.

It stated: "In May we reported in Bizarre that Lily Allen had made various offensive remarks about David and Victoria Beckham and Ashley and Cheryl Cole in an interview with a magazine.

"We now accept that Lily didn't say these things to the magazine and we apologise to Lily for the upset and embarrassment caused by repeating them."

A statement from her lawyers, Atkins Thomson, confirmed that Allen had settled her claim for defamation and false attribution of authorship with the daily redtop.

It stated: "In a consent order made by the High Court in London on 23 September, the Sun agreed to pay Lily damages of Β£10,000 and not to repeat the words complained of.

"In accordance with the order, the Sun has published an apology in the newspaper and online."

The singer's legal action against So Foot magazine continues.

Kerry Katona wants to take on 'Big Brother'

Kerry Katona and Mark Croft believe the only way to turn around their fortunes is by appearing on reality TV show 'Celebrity Big Brother'.

Kerry Katona wants to take on 'Big Brother'

Kerry Katona and husband Mark Croft want to go on 'Celebrity Big Brother'.

The reality TV star - who has been declared bankrupt and recently lost a Β£250,000-a-year deal with supermarket chain Iceland after she was videoed allegedly snorting cocaine - is desperate to make money, and thinks appearing on the reality TV show is the perfect answer.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "It's desperate stakes for her and Mark because they're going through a hell of a bad time.

"Every time the phone rings or a letter drops on the mat, it seems to bring yet more bad news."

The series of 'Celebrity Big Brother' scheduled for next January is to be the last ever on Channel 4.

Former 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' winner Kerry, 29, is said to think taking part in the show would help boost her profile, and Mark win public support.

Following her drug use accusations, Kerry - who raises four children with Mark - has not received any new offers of work.

She was also arrested for allegedly assaulting her accountant, and is facing a custody battle with ex-husband Brian McFadden for their two children.

Hicky Glad you enjoyed your brekkie. Did you sort your saftey specs out? Just got my sheets in off the line, the line, all dried nicely. Time to sort some veg out for dinner. Derren Brown on C4 tonight. Do you watch it?
Hi Mollie.
I took the specs in, they said come back in a week, they will have to order a new frame.
I'm keeping the lense just need a new frame as the arm broke off.

Looking forward to my brekkie tomorrow as well.

I haven't been watching Derren but I have a couple of his shows recorded.

Watching SCD now.

Hicky
good job you are able to re-use those lenses, and just replace the frame.

Are you out for brekkie tommorrow, or do you have something planned to cook at home?
We might go to Asdas for ours, but not sure yet, because we are off to the Elvis festival, and the heats start at noon. I am glad we have good weather for the weekend forecast, so all the visitors to the Elvis festival will enjoy the weekend.

I am not watching SCD this year, because it overlaps X Factor, and i don't have time to watch much on the recorder. Looking forward to Derren though at 9pm.  Am watching Corrie now, I love Corrie. Does your OH watch it?

Have a good evening. xx

Hi Mollie.
I'm hoping they can just fit the lenses into a a replacement frame.
I've got Salt Fish and Kippers for brekkie tomorrow and Sunday, and as I have to go back to Birkenhead next Friday to see if my glasses are done I may get some more Salt Fish from the market.
