Funny isn't it? neither my son or his partner like Christmas Pud but they're dead excited about this one.

I'm not keen on Christmas pud but I didn't like the look of this one 

we're far too easily seduced by clever advertising imo 

It's sold out in many Waitroses - no longer available on their online shopping website apparently.

However it didn't appeal to me - I will be sticking to an old family recipe for mine.

I can't stand fruit puds of any kind.

Don't like Christmas Pud, and an orange stuck in the middle just makes it worse, for me.

It's a whole orange, but candied, so you can eat it all.

My brother once swallowed the sixpence our Nan had put in the pud.  Where was H&S in the 70's!!!!!!!

Last year we had a pudding from Bettys (bettysbypost.com) and although it was pricey, it was amazing!

 That can make for a fun game for all the family on Boxing Day, 'Find The Sixpence'!

When I was a kid we bumped into my Dads friend one Sunday morning and he gave me half a crown - it was a lot of money in those days. I dropped it and the dog swallowed it - now that's ouch!

As I remember my Dad waited for it to come out and cleaned it up . Now that's what you call real 'dirty money'.

I am not keen on Christmas pudding, but if I was ever to be seduced it would not be by the name Heston Blumenthal.

One would think that after the "oysters tainted with sewage" fiasco, no-one would want to be seduced by him.

If there is one thing I abhor more than anything its food snobbery.
This man makes the most vile concoctions ever seen and then charges a fortune for people with more money than sense to come and eat it,

That pudding looks horrible and I wouldn't eat anything that man recommended if my life depended on it.

 I love candied orange and i think the pudding looks delicious - no Waitrose anywhere close to me though so I'm not likely to get to try it.


Advertising does make a difference though - do you remember the M&S melting middle chocolate puddings advert?

That's not entirely accurate....I've eaten at his place in Bray and while it cost a bomb, it was something I had wanted to do for years and probably isn't something I'll do again for yonks, if at all.

Well I may have generalised a little bit... ( what me generalise? Shocking) and I suppose I am just letting my prejudices show a bit. So apologies and I am glad you enjoyed it.

The tasting menu, loads of little dishes of different things. For me, cos I'd wanted to go for so long, it was like being in another world for a few hours, and I wanted to make the most of it. But I don't think it's the sort of place for someone to go to reluctantly.

I'd go if it was handier
