Yes it's Aldebaran and the one to the left again is Bellatrix. There should be a brighter one to the left and slightly higher than Bellatrix. It's called Betelgeuse (Beetlejuice ) These two stars depict the shoulders of Orion.

Bellatrix is the upper bright stae on our righr and Betelgeuse is upper left.

Lower right is Rigel (his left knee) and lower left is Saiph (his right foot)

The three sloping stars are his belt and the bright fuzzy stuff (a nebula) is his dagger.

Copies this 'cos we're on a new page.

I saw the crescent moon tonight, it looked beautiful but is it Jupiter that's nearest to it or Venus

Tonight Venus is closer (above and slightly right) while Jupiter is a lot lower and a lot further right.

Saturn rises tonight about 9:30, but it doesn't get very high, so depending on the conditions you might not be able to see it.

If I have succesfuly guided you to Mars, then Saturn will be in the same view, but while Mars is quite high Saturn will be quite low and a bit to the left. It has a star to it's right called Spica, constellation of Virgo.

I can see spica Fluffs it's v v bright, to the East, I know Saturn is just beside it, but it's not visible for me

Saturn should be much brighter than Spica.

Oh Bugga..really? That's not what my app is telling me And I've been out there, phone in hand, pointing to the sky, at the front of the house, for all of the village to see, (in my dressing gown and slippers!) several times now!

I was doing the same (minus the phone).

Tonight both Venus and Jupiter are very noticibly to the right of the moon and lower than it. They are technically in the sky now, between Sw and W, but it might still be a bit bright and/or hazy to see them. The Pleiades (Seven Sisters) will also be seen to the right of the moon, once it's darker.

Looking out of my front window (NW) and then to the left I see Venus, but not Jupiter (sky is still to bright even though the sun has set) And the moon is not far enough to the west to bee seen from my window.

Aaldebaran is still to the left of the moon, but closer than it was last night.

you have got to, it will blow your mind.  I sort of had this thought that all the planets were huge and the stars smaller I know I know it sounds silly now I say it.  All I have to say is watch it  Wow!

So did I.

*goes off to watch Katty's link*

That's Aldebaran. If you look a bit further to the left you might see another faint one which is Betelgeuse. Back to the moon and look up from it ('til your head almost falls off backwards ) you should see a small slightly brighter star - Capella.

I'm assuming you've got the same hazy sky as me Yogi.

Mars is high up in the SE with a couple of faint stars nearby - and that's all I can see tonight in the southern sky.

The large one to the right is Venus and Jupiter is a bit more to the right and lower in the sky.
