After reading about people losing weight on another thread I thought I wouldask for help.

I too have been stuggling with weight and have tried every diet going.  However, about last November after getting blood checked for a chest infection, I was asked to get it checked again in 6 months as my thyroid levels were out.  The doctor also said that a chest infection could have affected the results.  Anyway, I have been going back and fore getting blood tests only to be told come back in a month - last time 3 months.  I seem to be on the edge of having an underactive thyroid but doctor doesn't want to put me on thyroxine at the moment.

Meanwhile I have been getting more and more tired and have put on a stone in the last couple of months  (underactive thyroid lowers your metabolism).  I've been reading stuff on the internet and have been taking kelp tablets.  They have helped a wee bit but still feeling very lethargic ( as opposed to wanting to sleep all day)

Has anybody had experience or know of anyone who has to help me from not gaining weight or not feeling so tired?

I know it's the 'mail'...but may help!

Have no experience myself sorry

Toffeekins, what are your usual eating habits?

I don't mean WHAT do you eat, but WHEN do you eat?

Changing your eating habits and pattern may help.

Hi Toffeekins - sorry you're feeling so tired and grotty.  I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid about 10 years ago - have been on Thyroxine ever since.  I was actually been tested because of something else, but was discovered then.  Like you, I had put on some unexplained weight and felt absolutely exhausted all the time.  Mine did change very quickly so I was put on a low dose of Thyroxine (which has since gone up and up and I'm on a really high dose now), but I have read really good things about taking Kelp - I wouldn't give up on that...   I expect your Doc will want to do regular blood tests.

Have you been on the Thyroid website - there is some quite useful stuff there.  PM me if you want to x
