HELP ME PLEASE - how do I connect to the internet??

New laptop....says its wifi enabled...but I cant make it work. Entered my network thingy and nuffink! Something about my ip or something I dunno. I dont remember any faffing when I set up this one so why is new one being such a twat?

Have I mentioned how much I hate computers?

If you have a wifi router it should have come with a disc, I had to used this to programme our lappies in to it....

Laptgops sometimes have a little slider switch at the front or side to manually disable WiFi when you;re out and about with it. There may be a red colour when the switch is slid one way to indicate that you're wanting to broadcast.

I take it you have a wireless internet router. If so get your laptop to search for wireless connection on your connectivity. Then you put in the password set by your provider.

I have wireless...the laptop I'm using set up fine. This new one doesnt seem to have a slidey switch though. And whats configure your router mean please?

Yes I did all that and entered my network thingy but it didnt work. I then pressed to repair connection or something and it set it couldnt er something or other my ip or something like that.

You probably need to set WPA-PSK with a 64 bit key, with your SSID, select a 2.4GHz channel, possibly authenticate with your MAC address, and disable the giggling pin on your laughing sprocket. Simples.

I had all sorts of probs when I got this laptop...Is the little wireless light showing on your laptop...Mine is bottom left beside the power and battery light....It was suggested to me to leave the laptop sat in a room for a while to pick up the signal...It then worked.

Open a browser on the working laptop you're using now and type http://192.168.0.1 in the address line. If it asks for a username and password, type "admin" as user and "sky" as password. Or just click the link there in my message.

Did a bit of reading, and it appears that the Sagem is the more undesired of the two Sky modems. Netgear being the most desired. You can access router settings with the following address.

http://192.168.0.1

Username: admin
Password: sky

The options of interest will be Setup and Security.
