Just felt I should correct you that not being in Her Majesty's forces does not mean you would faint in the face of what these people have to face on a daily basis. As you say - it's not a competition.
Thing is though, you go to the office or whatever job you have to in the morning, these people (including our sons) get up to a day where they might not see the end of it and, whilst I agree that they have made that choice themselves, in my son's case (as many other's), he never thought he would see a war. He wanted to, but never thought he would, now he doesn't want to anymore, but knows he will again.

He joined the "armed forces" but never thought he'd see a war?  Did he not read the prospectus?  :/ 

And yet he "wanted" to see a war?


This all seems very odd.  Was it any war he fancied seeing or just armed conflict in general?  Until he changed his mind.
