Heather Watson and Johanna Konta have been awarded wild cards into the 2014 Aegon International.

British No.1 Watson made a huge splash in her first appearance at the Aegon International in 2010 when, ranked No.344 in the world, she won through three rounds of qualifying before falling to Victoria Azarenka in the second round.

The world No.69 said she was looking forward to playing her fifth-straight Aegon International. “I always love playing in Eastbourne, the courts are second-to-none so it's the perfect event to hone my grass court game,” said 22-year-old Watson, who fell in a tough three-set second round match against eventual champion Elena Vesnina at last year's tournament.

“The fans are fantastic and really supportive of all the British players. I'm hoping to give them something to get behind and really make the most of my wildcard.”

Watson will also take part in Rally For Bally at Devonshire Park on Sunday 15th of June in memory of former British No.1 Elena Baltacha who lost her battle against liver cancer in May.

Eastbourne resident and British No.3 Konta has enjoyed a excellent start to her 2014 grass court campaign, reaching the semifinals at the Pro Tour event in Nottingham and the second round at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham this week.

Currently ranked No.110 in the world, this is Konta's second main draw appearance at Devonshire Park, the 23-year-old falling in a tough first round match against world No.44 Su-Wei Hsieh last year.

Konta said she was looking forward to returning to the grass courts of Devonshire Park. “I'm really excited about playing in front of my home town crowd again,” she said. “This wild card is a tremendous opportunity for me to get some more grass court wins under my belt and hopefully I'll have some great results.”.

Watson and Konta join a host of top players competing at the Aegon International including top seed Victoria Azarenka, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova and Jelena Jankovic.

British number two Laura Robson will miss the US Open in August as she continues to recover from a wrist injury.

The 20-year-old, who has already pulled out of Wimbledon, has completed just one match in 2014.

Robson has slipped from 46th in the world rankings to 80th.

"I went through a very, very depressed stage," said Robson, "I didn't go on any tennis websites because I was so jealous of everyone able to play."

Robson told BBC Sport that she is now "past that stage" and will be able to start playing mini tennis with sponge balls in August.

"At the moment it's kind of a day-to-day thing in terms of pain and how the inflammation is going, but rehab seems to be coming along nicely," she said.

Robson's left wrist first flared up in December 2013 when she was forced to withdraw from the ASB Classic in New Zealand. A week later she retired from the Hobart International with the same injury. She has since undergone minor wrist surgery.

In March, Robson added Colombian Mauricio Hadad, who helped Maria Sharapova win Wimbledon in 2004, to her coaching team.

The US Open - the final Grand Slam of the year - gets under way on 25 August in New York.

Robson's only full match to date this year was a swift defeat by Kirsten Flipkens at the Australian Open in January, and she is already targeting Melbourne next year on her route back up the rankings.

"I'd still like to be able to play some matches at the end of this year and get some competitive tennis in before Australia," she said.

"I'm basically going to be playing some very small tournaments to try and get my ranking up again."

The former Wimbledon junior champion admitted that such an extended absence from tennis has been hard to cope with.

"I didn't look at the live scores, and I didn't watch any tennis on TV.

"But now I'm kind of past that and I'm looking forward to being able to watch Wimbledon as a spectator for once."

Robson will be working as part of the BBC commentary team at Wimbledon, which begins on 23 June.

The result of the match between Flavia Pennetta and Heather Watson is:

7-6, 4-6, 2-6.

Heather Watson is through to the third round at Eastbourne. Well done to Heather

Even more importantly, this is the first time in Heather Watson's adult career that she has beaten a player in the top 20 - Flavia Pennetta is ranked 12th. This match is a major milestone in her career and a huge boost to her confidence.

In the quarter finals she will play either Varvara Lepchenko (ranked 57th) or Petra Kvitova (ranked 6th).

What a shame - the score would suggest that she pushed hard all the way.

I'm back from my meeting only to find that Petra Kvitova had to withdraw due to a hamstring injury. She doesn't think it's serious and hopes to be fit by Monday for Wimbledon. That means that Heather Watson gets to tomorrow's semi-final, Her opponent will be either Madison Keys (ranked 47th) or Lauren Davis (58th). That match is in progress and Madison Keys has won the first set.

If it is Madison Keys, Heather Watson will be eager to beat her as she was the one who knocked Heather out of Wimbledon last year in the first round. Of course Heather Watson was still recovering from glandular fever last year and she is a lot healthier and fitter now.

The Wimbledon draw was made this morning.

Heather Watson's first round match is against Ajla Tomljanovic(ranked 51). The winner will then face either Angelique Kerber (9) or Urszula Radwanska (93).

Samantha Murray (238) has to face Maria Sharapova (5) in the first round.

Tara Moore (248) is drawn against Vera Zvonareva (559).

Johanna Konta is drawn against Shuai Peng (58). the winner will then face either Sloane Stephens (19 but seeded 18) or Maria Kirilenko (88).

Madison Keys has won the final at Eastbourne beating Angelique Kerber 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. She may be ranked 47 at present but not for long. Rising star and at the rate she's going she's going to be in the top 10 before this time next year. She's only 19. Heather Watson decribed her yesterday as the hardest opponent she has ever faced. Could well replace Serena Williams as the number one American when Serena eventually retires.

So Heather has climbed 50+ places over he last couple of months? Hopefully her recent form will continue.

The WTA Road to Singapore rankings are even more impressive. They show Heather Watson rising from 52 to 33 as a result of getting to the semis at Eastbourne.

Naomi Broady's Wimbledon challenge ended in the second round as she lost 6-3 6-2 to former world number one Caroline Wozniacki on Court One.

Heather Watson's match with Angelique Kerber today is on Centre Court after the Nadal match and before the Federer match. Good luck Heather in what will be a tough match.

Heather Watson's Wimbledon campaign ended in the second round with a three-set defeat by German ninth seed Angelique Kerber on Centre Court.

The British number one fought back well after a poor first set, but Kerber took the decider to win 6-2 5-7 6-1.

Watson, 22, had been hoping to beat a top-10 player for the first time, and match her best effort at a Grand Slam by reaching the third round.

Kerber goes on to face Belgian 24th seed Kirsten Flipkens in the last 32.

A mixed week for Heather Watson in the Baku Cup. In the singles she lost 6-2 3-6 6-0 to France's Kristina Mladenovic in the first round.

But she and Alexandra Panova of Russia have won the doubles title in Azerbaijan.

Watson, 22, and Panova, 25, earned a 6-2 7-6 (7-3) victory over the third-seeded pairing of Romania's Raluca Olaru and Israel's Shahar Peer.

It is the British number one's fourth WTA title, and her first since 2012.

Two years ago, she won the Stanford Classic and Texas Open doubles titles, both with New Zealand's Marina Erakovic, and the Japan Open singles.

She's off to the States as she's in the Citi Open which starts tomorrow as part of her preparation for the US Open. Her first round match is against Kirsten Flipkens who is ranked 47, Heather is currently ranked 57. She's not taking part in the doubles though.

Heather Watson lost that first round match against Kirsten Flipkens.

This week she's in the Rogers Cup in Montreal. Yesterday she won the qualifying match against Tamira Paszek 6-3, 6-2 to get to the main draw, Her first round match is against Tereza Smitkova who is lower ranked at 93 (Heather is currently ranked 57). Who ever wins is likely to face Dominka Cibulkova ranked 12 so a much tougher game.

British number one Heather Watson progressed to the third round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal after a three-hour victory over 10th seed Dominika Cibulkova.

Two service breaks saw Watson to a one-sided first set but her Slovakian opponent hit back to force a decider.

Watson, 22, held her nerve in a third set that went to a tie-breaker before prevailing 6-2 6-7 (3-7) 7-6 (7-5).

The world number 57 meets Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the next round.

Watson won two qualifying matches to reach the main draw in Montreal and continued her good form with a hard-fought win over Czech Tereza Smitkova on Monday.

She was impressive in compiling her first ever win over world number 12 Cibulkova, hitting 10 aces without reply and forcing six breaks of service.

Her next opponent, 25-year-old Azarenka, is a former world number one and two-time Grand Slam title winner.

Watson has never beaten Azarenka, winning just four games in total from three straight-sets defeats, the most recent of which came at Miami in March 2012.

I think Heather Watson's ranking will improve to at worst 50th.

Heather Watson has moved on to the Western & Southern Open in Cincinatti this coming week in her continued preparation for the US Open. She's in the qualifying rounds and in the first of the two rounds has beaten Kristyna Pliskova 6-3, 6-4. Oddly enough, Kristyna Pliskova has a world ranking of 41 but was not seeded in these qualifiers, but Heather Watson has a ranking of 57 and was ranked 12. The road to Singapore rankings show 27 and 43 respectively.

Heather Watson's second qualifying match is against Shahar Peer. Based on present form, I would expect Heather Watson to win, so get into the main draw.
