Jennifer Brady has withdrawn from the US Open. In place of her is Stefanie VΓΆgele who had lost in the qualifying rounds but has been chosen as a lucky loser.
Stefanie VΓΆgele has a ranking of 121 so her match with Emma Raducanu has been changed to a lower court .
Bad day yesterday for the British women with Heather Watson and Harriet Dart losing.
Worse for Johanna Konta who had to withdraw due to a thigh injury, Her ranking will drop below Heather's as a result. Heather has never gone past the first round in the US Open so her ranking will stay much the same as at present. Because of the pandemic, rankings have been based on the last two years results. Where a result in a tournament in 2019 was better than in 2020, the 2019 result had overridden the 2020 result in the rankings. Johanna had got to the quarter-finals in 2019 which is why her ranking will drop below Heather's.
Emma through to the second round in straight sets She will be against Zhang Shuai who beat her in San Jose earlier this month.
Emma Raducanu's second round match is scheduled at 4 pm this afternoon.
Emma Raducanu through to the third round beating Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-4.
She's against Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Emma Raducanau through to the fourth round thrashing Sara Sorribes Tormo, ranked 41, 6-0, 6-1.
Her opponent is potentially Ashleigh Barty.
Emma's ranking will rise to just outside the top 100 at least and in the Porsche Race Singles rankings (which are based on this year's results) to about 70.
Emma Raducanu's opponent is Shelby Rogers (ranking 43) who beat Ashleigh Barty over 3 sets.
Shelby Rogers is American so the spectators may be rooting for her rather than Emma.
The Shelby Rogers/Emma Raducanu is the second match today in the main Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Emma Raducanu in to the quarter finals beating Shelby Rogers 6-2, 6-1. Her opponent is Belinda Bencic seeded 11.
Emma's ranking will now improve to around 80
The new British number one, Emma Raducanu, is through to the semi-finals beating Belinda Bencic 6-3, 6-4. She'll be against either Karolina Pliskova (seeded 4) or Maria Sakkari (seeded 17). She will be around 53 in the rankings.
She's the 3rd woman to get to the US semi finals outside the top 100, the others being Billie Jean King in 1969 and Kim Clijsters in 2009 and the first to get through via the qualifying rounds

Laura Robson was a few months older than Emma when she got through to the 4th round back in 2012. Sue Barker also got through to the 4th round back in 1976
Emma is against Maria Sakkari in the semi-finals. Looks as if the semi-finals are played overnight UK time.
Emma Raducanu beat Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-4 to get to the final. Her ranking shoots up to around 34.
First qualifier to reach a Grand Slam final.
First British woman to get to a major final in 44 years, and the US final in 53 years.
Youngest British Grans Slam finalist in 62 years.
Only the fourth British woman to get to a Grand Slam final in the Open era.
Her opponent is the other teenager, Leylah Fernandez who is a couple of months older than Emma but has been on the professional circuit longer.
Have to say that I found the Fernandez semi-final the more entertaining of the two, but good to see Emma through to the final.
Amazon and C4 did a deal and C4 will be showing the final LIVE!
New rankings now released:
Emma Raducanu 23 from 150
Heather Watson 59 from 64
Johanna Konta 66 from 47
Leylah Fernandez just below Emma at 27 from 73.
The Porsche Race Singles show Emma now at 14. The top 8 get to play in the end of season WTA Finals if that takes place. There's also a tournament for the next 12 for the Elite trophy. However the Billie Jean King Cup matches are around at a similar time.
Johanna Konta has pulled out of next week's tournament at Chicago and the Indian Wells tournament the following week due to an ongoing injury. May not be playing for the rest of this year.
Emma Raducanu won't be in the Chicago tournament, yet to decide for the Indian Wells one, but is on the entry list for the one in Moscow which is after the Indian Wells one.
Emma Raducanu is in the Indian Wells tournament via a wildcard. The entry list for that had been published during the US Open so she was out of the automatic places at that time though obviously would have been if the list had been published afterwards,. She's also on the entry list for the Moscow and Romanian tournaments later in October.
Heather Watson is also in the India Wells tournament.
The Indian Wells qualifying rounds start tomorrow with the main rounds on Wednesday. According to Wiki, Emma Raducanu is seeded 17 (not all the top players are playing) which means she gets a bye for the first round.
The only British player in the WTA qualifying rounds is Katie Boulter who plays later today. 2 rounds in the qualifiers.
Katie Boulter lost her qualifying match.
In the main draw which starts tomorrow, Heather Watson is against Sloane Stephens who is in a similar ranking in the first round.
Heather Watson was beaten in 3 sets.
Emma Raducanu's opponent in the second round is Aliaksandra Sasnovich who has a ranking of 100, Whoever wins is likely to be playing the number 1 seed Simona Halep.

Emma lost in straight sets. First match in 27 days and still very inexperienced at the senior level. Before the US Open she had said that she knew that she would lose matches and would gain experience from that.
Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Moscow tournament but is scheduled to play in Romania and Austria later this season. She says that she was not "putting any pressure" on herself after her early exit at Indian Wells. "In my mind I'm so inexperienced that I'm just taking it all in,"
Emma Raducanu is playing in the Transylvania Open in Romania today. Her father comes from Romania (mother from China) but they've lived in the UK since Emma was 2. No spectators so disappointing for the players.
And she's won her second round match in 2 sets to get to the quarter finals Her opponent is Marta Kostyuk who is ranked 55, so higher than either of Emma's opponents in the first two rounds.
Emma Radacanu is in the main draw of the Austrian Open at Linz but has a bye to the second round later this week.
Emma Raducanu lost her match in 3 sets, she hasn't been well and was playing with an injury. It's the last match of the season, and she had announced that Torben Beltz will be her new coach. He had been Angelique Kerber's coach.
Johanna Konta has announced that she's retiring from professional tennis at the age of 30, not wholly unexpected given that she has long term tendonitis in her right knee:

Not that surprising
Not surprisingly Emma Raducanu was announced this morning as one of the six contenders for BBC's Sports Personality of the Year. The others are Tom Daley, Tyson Fury, Adam Peaty, Raheem Sterling and Sarah Storey. Emma is the bookies favourite by a long way.

Though her day hasn't gone well as she has tested positive for Covid and so has withdrawn from an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi.
Draw for Australian Open:
Sloane Stephens v Emma Raducanu (very tough draw as Emma has only played one match since recovering from Covid which she lost heavily
Heather Watson v Mayar Sherif
Harriet Dart has qualified for the main round, not yet known who her opponent is.
