As far as I know the HGC levels are secreted by the placenta and it's to do with its functioning? So I don't think she can increase them herself.

If the pregnancy is ongoing they will double in the space of 48 hours, if the pregnancy is failing they will decrease in 48 hours.

Tell your friend to rest, there is nothing she can do unfortunatly.

I miscarried August 22nd last year and got pregnant again 5th September. Im due on saturday.

If she does suffer a miscarriage she has got a good chance of carrying on to have a successful pregnancy.

they wasnt very nice with her, her bf asked if he could see the scan and the woman turned around and said 'there is nothing to see' really abrupt. She is very upset about it all.
Ive told her to go to the doctors but ive been looking on the net aswel for her and its not very clear. Thought you lot may be able to help

I don't think you can increase the HCG levels Tilly...it's being pregnant that makes the HCG levels go up...they should double every day for the first couple of months I think....it's up to her body to make the adjustment.

Very poor that the hospital staff didn't take the time to explain in laymans terms to your friend. honestly ...........as if she wasn't worried enough. Five minutes of someones time is nothing - especially in a situation like this.

OMG... it makes my blood boil that they have sent your poor friend home, to basically see if she miscarries... without explaining any of this to her.

Seriously.. I know she will be in no fit state, but perhaps her bf may be, tell them to NOT let the staff fob them off if they are unclear about anything. They have a "duty of care" to ensure patients are FULLY informed, and fully understand as far as is possible what is happening, suspected, planned etc.

IF they still have problems, they should demand that a PALS Officer be assigned to them (Patient Advocacy Liason Officer). All hospitals have them, they will act as a go between, and are there for circumstances such as these.

aren't your hgc levels the hormones that the pregnancy test uses to confirm whether you're pregnant or not? They're naturally produced when you're pregnant, and I don't think can be increased/determined before you get pregnant. As far as I remember your HGC levels can be low for a two reasons, either it's really early days in the pregnancy and the hormone levels aren't high enough yet, or there's a threatened miscarriage.

Hopefully for your friend it's the first one, but what I would suggest is, if she can't wait the two days, if she gets a couple of pregnancy tests, the ones with the lines on them, not the digital ones and do a bouple of them over the next few days and see if the line darkens. If it darkens she'll know the HGC levels are increasing, and that might set her mind at ease.

It's a pretty lame suggestion, but it's the only one I can think of. Fingers crossed for her

I hope all goes well for your friend....hospitals are not that great at dealing with threatened miscarriage. I went to the hospital at 4am with heavy bleeding...was stuck in a side room for 8hrs unattended...sent home cos some doctor said I was fine as he couldn't see my cervix....collapsed at home in the afternoon, haemorraging (sp?) badly....lost my baby.

I was lucky enough to fall pregnant again quite quickly and he's now 6yrs old.

It is good that your friend has you looking out for her. She could also talk to her midwife, if she has one already, they will be able to advise her and talk to her. I truly hope everything goes well for her...send her big hugs and lots of love xx
