No way. Christmas trees go up Christmas Eve while somebody takes the kids out and they come back after dark with the room full of candle light and presents and the tree. Well, that's how it works back home anyway and I used to do it with my wee ones, but the grandchildren are used to the tree being there a week or so before Christmas and presents on Christmas day.

Hope we get a white christmas this year, would be the icing on the cake- snow on christmas day.

Nope - not got my tree up yet ................it'll probably go up on the 17th or 18th ..............and the way I'm feeling at the moment. I couldn't give an eff if I never saw snow again. Two weeks ago it was very, very pretty. Now it's a nuisance and has got in the way of pre planned events.

Put the tree up today, but one in four of the lights aren't working, so I've spent all evening fiddling with them. It will be decorated by tomorrow.

Knew there woud be someone with the same prob as me---- the lights. Why do they suddenly stop working fom one  year to the next? Its not as if we have messed with them. just put them away and hope for the best. Seems like it might be better to buy a new set of lights each year.
Crispy Christmas
Yeah PeterCat.I'm all up for Christmas and New Year celebrations.Trees, lights etc.The whole bulid up,from 2 months before. But this year i just can't get into any of it.The week inbetween Christmas and NY this year is a normal working week for me.It's unheard of,but i have no say in the matter.'Business requirements' dictate.
How are you supposed to get into the whole Christmas thing, what's the point?.

I really wasn't being a grump about it, just trying to convey how I felt as a child and how I was trying to do the same for my children. Things change over the generations, but I like the way it was when I was a child because it was so magical and it wouldn't have been the same if the tree and decorations had been there for weeks on end before the big day.

I truly do not understand anyone who gets upset over xmas..

It is what it is for each and every one of us. It's nice to think that it's all jolly, ho ho ho and lovely ...................and generally it is. Sometimes though we can't alter things in our life that coincide.

I really and truly hope that everyone on here has a lovely Christmas though. It's one time in the year to kick loose and try to enjoy. Thank God for Christmas - it makes us make an effort ....................and if for whatever reason this one aint good ..............................let's hope the next one is!

We do and there's no kids in the house now!!! Actually I'm mega excited! My sons partner (god Bless Her) isn't great at Christmas and all the traditions etc. (very sad but she didn't have a great childhood).

She gets a bit frazzled re Christmas and my son said to her 'Why don't you get my mum to do the stockings this year - she's good at that'. (I was touched TBH as he's not one for giving compliments).

She was quite happy to give it up ..............and me ..............well I'm like a pig in ***** YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE it's a long time since I've done proper kiddie stockings!
