I very rarely eat in pubs, but yesterday me and my mate decided to have a sunday roast in our local for one, it's always busy in there with people buying food so I thought it must be decent. Well it wasn't yuck but it wasn't wow either, just traditional beef and veg with roasties, mash, yourkies, the norm. I don't think I'll be eating in there again.

I've been let down more times than I care to remeber with Pub meals ..if you find a good pub - stick with it IMO.
The place I go to on a Sunday is marvellous. A carvery and a whole bunch of different veggies. Alas! My Doctor has forbidden me to eat Yorkshire pudding.

If you find a good anything stick with it. IMHYCO.
Too many times to recall. A Salad Nicoise full of sand was a particular treat.
Now I usually stick the the most basic things on the menu.

Always a carvery for us as well if we go out for a sunday roast, you know its been cook cooked and not microwaved/preheated and plastic tasting as most pubs do

I can beat that, my Ceasar Salad in BL1 had a lovely little snail in it!
I've been told to go to the Weatherspoons in town I've heard it's good and cheap, and a pub in town called The Bell Inn which I do drink in is supposed to have a good reputation.
Pool, as your location says Nottingham, try these ones for carverys in your area, i typed in your location and 4 came up

what did you expect though? you ordered Sunday lunch and thats what you got?
We have a lovely carvery near us - nice and cheap and just your standard roast dinner but I like it
I prefer a carvery but have been to a few different places for sunday lunch and have been very disappointed.

I very rarely eat out - especially in Pubs (no reason, I'm veggie and they don't tend to cater beyond a stuffed pepper!) anyhow, my husband and I did go for a meal ad hoc a few years ago in a well known local pub; the food was clean and hot but you wouldn't choke on the servings! I was calculating the cost as I ate - plus it wasn't anything special but really expensive for what it was - pasta and peppers.

Why can't they 'carve' Quorn roasts in a half-hearted attempt to say the least? You can get/have veggie gravy/roasts and stuffing to be 'veggie friendly' and I bet loads more people would turn up if places made the effort!

if you are ever in Brighton gma there is a pub called the George and it serves only veggie/vegan food.
it's very good - only problem is that it's in Brighton and there are loads of great veggie and vegan food places there so you get spoilt for choice

Thanks Veggie, we frequently do the 'London to Brighton Run' so when we go we have to go to go to the 'Ship Inn' aka 'Ramada Renaissance? so I'll check them out - They're rubbish! Honestly. We're not even paying,my hubby's boss pays as they're his cars (hubby just maintains them).

I love the Red Veg place there too gma. I haven't been to Brighton for a couple of years so I'm not sure what is still there but Red Veg do a mushroom burger that is to die for and they also do these devilled baby sweetcorn thingies - so nice.

I was a little disappointed when a posh restuarant in Marbella served me an unpeeled orange on a plate, complete with a knife and fork
Fried breadcrumbs was another eye-opener

I was in there Saturday night, normally in the room on the right as you walk in, coz me and my mate know the barmaid, I never used to like that pub, but I think it's great now.
We had a dreadful meal in a very well regarded pub/restaurant in a north Leeds village recently. The staff were rude, the place was filthy, and the food was awful and really expensive. I had steak in a white wine and mushroom sauce which turned out to be two massive bits of grey fatty gristle that I would have thought twice about giving to the dogs, covered in half a pint of cream. When we complained the waitress said oh, well, other people like it. I looked around at the empty tables with dirty plates on them and the amount of food left seemed to suggest otherwise. We've got a really good village pub just up the road though which is used by a lot of walkers. They always serve gorgeous home cooked food, real roasts with homemade Yorkshire puds and proper roast spuds cooked in dripping, and a pud selection to die for.
Something about walkers and pubs QOTHT.
I sometimes walk on the other side of the M62 from you, Sylvia Plath land and northwards.
There are some great eating establishments in them there hills.
