I used to like Angus Deyton

Apparently yes.

It's about time Angus Deyton returned. The guest hosts are too hit and miss.  Why do they keep inviting dull Kirsty Young and Jo Brand back when they aren't funny?

I think that I enjoyed all of the replacements, however I don't understand why they got rid of Angus Deyton.

He was, but it's a long long time ago now.

Agree Carnellian...unfortunately was around the same time a couple of other celebs got caught & examples were being made!
I know it isn't good behaviour, but if done in his own home, then it really isn't anyones business..gutter press at work again!
He was a good host for the show

I thought last night's programme was one of the best for some time.
Chris Addison was a good guest host, who is skilled at delivering comedy.
James Blunt was a guest panellist and I was agreeably surprised at how self-deprecating he was, well able to laugh at himself and he also displayed a ready wit.
It was a funny programme.

It was indeed the best one for a long time. They really nheed to get something for the next half hour. Maybe Harry and Paul (good in parts) would be a good idea, then they could quietly drop Perrin and Whites.

Chris Addison is a bit tasty, innit?

Anyway, I agree with those who say that Angus Deayton should be brought back  - he is just a funny man.
 Loved him on Hells Kitchen too but they ditched him from that aswell.

I like Paul Merton but I've never taken to Ian Hislop

He's funnier than Paul Merton, not by design, but by accident. He's such a square that anything he says comes out a bit strange and weird and funny. Paul, much as I like him, relies on the autocutie.

I think it's just that he's such a complete intellectual that we overlook his funny side. He's been educated to the endth degree and yet, he screws up his little nose and says something derogative yet funny and I crease up.

I used to get livid about that, but that was when he was down on the Labour Party. Whenever he does it about the Cons or Libdems, I'm right there with him.

Having said what i said about him though, the programme wouldn't work without him and Paul Merton.

Bad enough without Angus - although I agree with previous posters that some guest presenters have done a good job.

I agree with all of that. Time to get Angus back, although people like Boris Johnson (sp) where very good too, Angus just had the right amount of sarcasm to go with it.

Maybe, but I don't think that I could just turn up at the studio and read off an autocue in front of a live audience and a few million people. The thought alone scares the beejeeses of me.

There's no way Angus Deayton will ever return to the show in its current format. The reason he left was because Ian and Paul refused to work with him. As Paul said to Michael Parkinson, "We stabbed him in the front."

Paul Merton never liked Angus: you could often tell there was real bile behind some of his barbs towards Angus. On the other hand, Ian quite liked him, but that changed after the sex-and-drugs scandal. I remember reading Ian's columns for the Sunday Telegraph at the time: he quickly realized that it was impossible to have a host of a satirical news quiz who was the news ("Essentially you had to either sack the show or sack him.").
As he would famously say later, he realised that Deayton had to go when Christine Hamilton was able to take the moral high-ground...
