Cue "Evil Big Brother" in BB6
This series was certainly a huge leap from boring BB5 and chose fiery/controversial characters and some wild twists.
The show was a success with Nadia winning. But also included a full on riot taking the show off air and security to intervene.
And then there was the Shilpa/Jade catastrophe where BB should have intervened but for some reason allowed a race storm to run its course.
And now BB13 - Secrets and Lies messing with people's relationships for ratings and a deliberate pairing of Dazel with diasterous results.
BB cannot be both controversial with the show 'antics' and expect its HM's to behave in a completely appropriate manner.
So has the show ran its course?
You pre-empted a post I was going to make Saint, albeit with a slightly different angle.
My post was to announce my withdrawal from this years BB - to be quite frank I've had enough of BB and the forum this year.
But back on topic. For me the Daley / Hazel incident is just one in a series of elements which has had me losing interest in BB for the last few years. Since Channel 5 got hold of BB there has been an increasing emphasis on sating the appetite of the tabloid side of the business and this can be seen in the contestants and the type of show being produced managed, I say managed because I think Channel 5 influence what happens a bit too much.
The other point to note is that audience figures have dropped significantly, to the point where on some days they are barley scraping 1.5M viewers - Family Guy gets nearly 900K viewers on BBC Three at 11pm!
The quick answer to your question would be YES, resoundingly. I think it's not a patch on what it was and has lost site of the original idea. I have never really watched much of the celebrity versions. I for one would not be sad to see the end of BB in it's current form.
Big Brother, your time on our screens is over - you have been evicted.
