Just read this thread. If you haven't already installed Chrome, it may leave you with a "blue screen" if you keep IE 8!

The main problem with IE 8 is that it causes "memory bloat". IOW, it needs a lot more memory.

If you are more comfortable with "MSIE" I would respectfully suggest that you increase the RAM in your puter!

I network 2 PCs and a laptop in my home network and when I upgraded to IE 8 I had no problem with the PCs. However, the laptop gave me problems. Things really slowed down and I even mean the "boot up" time. Perhaps this is because IE 8 is part of the "Explorer" app in windows?

My problem explained: The "TravelMate 2420" slowed when my other (custom PCs) puters didn't. The only difference between them was the amount of available RAM, the PCs had a gig or more of RAM whereas the laptop only had a half gig of RAM and some of this (64 meg) was used by the graphics card.

To cut a long story short. I installed a gig of RAM hardware to the laptop and it works fine now.

Thanks Suricat, but this is a brand new lappy with a 2 gig memory and a 2.16 processor. IE doesn't cause me any problems and I just thought I'd have a look at something different.
