Yes, it's not as fun as it was when I was a kid and got lots of toys.

The TV peeps seem to think that there's not a lot of people watching cos they're playing with the kids. I'd like to tell the PTB we don't all have kids

Ditto .....my Santa stocking is decidedly meagre these days

Me either, but surely they should cater for all walks of life?

If they want to have a broadcasting licence all the major terrestrial channels should be brought into line with their output

That's very true Velvet.
I don't have kids but I imagine it must be magical watching them open their presents on Christmas morning.
We were discussing this earlier. It used to be a mad rush on Christmas Eve to prepare for the day, football on Boxing Day and back to normal.
Now it's all about Landfill.
It's changed completely for me... Previously money worries & family bickering made it bad enough for it to be close to a phobia for me.
then mum got sick and my world changed. Then followed the moat bittersweet Xmas ever (mums last), then was the warmest ever (aka escape to Egypt) then last year I decided to create a new 'normal' for us for Xmas and threw my doors open to any family and friends ... It was awesome and I suddenly got it!!! This was what it should be about!
thus year I have 13 for Xmas day again... Friends and family.... A time to make memories etc
i am Scrooge after the ghost visits
(Scrooge on steroids according to duckster)
I still feel for those that dread it though... Maybe next year I will target them and find a way to change it for them too

Well yes, of course it's changed ... thank goodness! When I was a child my brother used to come into mine and my sister's bedroom on Christmas morning at about 5am and get into bed with one of us (we used to take in in turns year by year) and open our stockings. Mum and dad used to come in about 6am and light the parafin heater, then go back to bed leaving us to play with our stocking fillers (I've often wondered why they needed that extra sleep )
Nowadays we have central heating and if my brother tried to get into bed with me I would be a bit perturbed!

Yes it's changed quite a bit for me. As a kid I kinda liked it, presents and chocolate and food and pop and all, as an adult it started as a mild irritation, then became a major dislike as I thought about it all rationally as an event and saw the truth of what it really is and now it is a miasma of unwanted responsibilities and commitments with a lead up which is depressingly long but the day is mercifully short to be followed by my favourite day of the year 1st January 9:00am.
BUT, I hope you all enjoy your holiday in any way which works for you.
Yes... Amazon means I buy more Christmas tat. Like this classy christmas jumper I got today, ÂĢ6 and 100% polyester:

Aw Ditty, I'm so pleased for you that's definitely the spirit of Christmas- it really is what you make it isn't it
I think life is ever changing, we evolve, lose people, Circumstances change, our homes change, our budget changes...
I got divorced (common law) this year, so Christmas will be different but I'm still enjoying this festive season and have spent a lot more time making handmade gifts & decorations. I'm also creating new traditions too...
I'm having a curry feast for my Xmas dinner- I'll be honest, I don't like roasts!

That's very true for a lot of us, Summer.
The important thing is how we cope with these changes, and you have been amazing.
Thanks Roger and yogi you're lovely. I'm already enjoying this festive season and I hope everyone else does too
