And Marxism/Communism are states of Socialism. There are many types of Socialism, and the end stage where the State imposes it is what Marx describes as Communism in his thesis Das Kapital. I would go in to his theory of 'Dialectic Materialism' but I've got to do the school run in 10 minutes

A tad judgemental there. We cannot really judge how any of them are in the outside world, I think he looks the sort of bloke who has a wide circle of friends who are supportive of him as he is of them. He is very interested in people, all people, which blows out of the water those who want to paint him as just another Tory toffee nosed twit.Reference:

I wrote a poem on "Dialectical Materialism" When I was 13.
That's impressive! What a precocious little talent you must have been ding dong. So you should be able to grasp how (Eton educated) George Orwell's works can be interpreted by just about anyone to fit in with their world view.
Ahahahhaha Of course I can. But it helps if you get the basics right in the first place

I think it shows people can interpret it to suit their own agenda - in Ben's case, to support his belief in a 'benign dictatorship' where the 'elite' (him and his chums, presumably) keep the plebby masses in order.

Orwell was firmly against totalitarianism in any form and considered himself a 'democratic socialist' His experiences during the Spanish Civil war as detailed in 'Homage to Catalonia' led him to become totally anti Soviet- communism.
This BB is actually reminding me more of Lord of the Flies!

The school took us to see the movie as we were reading the book at school
