I get cramps in my legs and in my feet - usually happens when they have taken too much fluid off during dialysis. I have also gotten them in my hands.

Best thing to do is to stand up and walk around a bit. Your GP can prescribe quinine tablets if it happens a lot. Tonic water (which has a bit of quinine in it) can help too.

I had my first one vere last night and cannot believe how incredibly painful it was - it woke me up and the muscle is still very tender today!!

Just the thought of the pain now make me feel sick!!

Yes I get it quite often .....all the time when I was pregnant .........as soon as you feel it .......stand on tiptoes or pull the leg out very straight and pull your toes towards you.

I sympathise ............I daren't stretch in bed as it will always bring on a leg cramp.

I had to look that up BB, sounds a difficult thing to live with, I hope you're getting some decent treatment for it. Hug

Thanks Skive. Hug There is no specific treatment for it unfortunately. Two types of medication that have been developed for other illnesses have helped people with PN by lessening the pain to some degree but I wasn't one of them. It's progressive and it's now reached up my legs to my waist an has spread to my hands. I just hope that one day a drugs company will come up with a painkiller that targets it. But I suppose there's not much financial incentive for them. In the meantime I will carry on with sitting and sleeping with my electric fan on me.

Also tomatoes and tomato juice, in fact anything with tomatoes in it and of course bananas.
