Me too.. I really hate that other home country's don't do the same.. it's sad

Do you think people call brits English a lot cos the language is called English,  if people muck up and say English instead of British  I can understand it may annoy some but  doubt offence is intended, tis a slip of the tongue

try being in the Midlands we don't even rate a mention it's either north or south but nothing in between   so I know how the other home nations feel

I don't think that GB is England, but through force of habit, I've called the GB football teams 'England' a couple of times before correcting myself.  It doesn't mean I think GB = England, just that I'm used to thinking of football in particular, in those terms.

Put another way, team GB is 'we' or 'us' but usually for the English, 'we' or 'us' is England.  No need for Scots to get worked up about it, I'd expect many Scots make the same slips by referring to team GB as 'Scotland'.

I can appreciate that Scots will think it's "England's Olympics" because it mostly is, likewise, those outside London think it's "London's Olympics" because it mostly is.

If, say, Edinburgh had hosted the Olympics, I wouldn't begrudge the emphasise of the ceremony being placed firstly on Edinburgh, then Scotland and finally GB.

It is... it's  "London 2012", not UK 2012.  (I'm a Scot, but I don't think of it as England's Olympics - I think of it as London's)   Does it bother me?  Not one Jot.   It's still got me feeling quite patriotic because it's so close to home, but eternally thankful I don't actually live in London when I see all the travel disruption etc...  Best of both worlds.   Whilst I'm sure the atmosphere must be fantastic, wild horses wouldn't get me there... but that's just me.
