I just read on our local news website (Nottingham) about an 18 year old lad being stabbed over the weekend in a part of Nottingham that you would not normally associate with that kind of incident, still it's a stabbing but I guarantee it won't make the national news, surely the more coverage a story like that makes, the more chance of catchig the culprits that did it.

No it wouldn't. Sadly people are stabbed in London on a daily basis, and the vast majority of them don't make the local news, let alone the national news.
How sad that an incident like that doesn't make news headlines any more, that it is virtually a daily occurrence is horrific
My sons mate was stabbed at the weekend. The police are just about bothered let alone any press. Serious misconception there Poolshark.
I think it is the nature of the beast (mankind) that there are a few bad ones in every city. The bigger the city the more bad it seems to have.. There are exceptions I believe.
Look at it this way.. 61 million people.. how many get stabbed?

The press get slated for printing so much bad news.

Realistic probability theory James but still a horrible trauma to go through for those who are affected It's so sad that stabbings and shooting rarely make headlines these days. Alot more shit goes on than is reported.

Mind you, Mr G got stabbed over 30 years ago, and it didn't even get reported in the local paper, so I don't think it's a particuarly new phenomenon. Attacks like that are so commonplace in major cities, and have been for years, that it's only the odd very high profile case that gets picked up by the media.
I do pity the police in the gang cases, cos no-one will talk. So their job is made extremely difficult at times as they are expected to produce results and convictions but if the evidence wont stick the CPS wont back it up and hence no conviction. The police get blamed for this which is unfair, as most of the time it's common knowledge who the culprit is but without official red tape back up nothing can get done.
If all stabbings were reported by the press, whatever, the public would turn off to them anyway. Better to sensationalise a few and use them as examples. We must focus on the reasons for carrying weapons, not the actual incidents themselves. Specially this youth gang culture.. Got to end it or refocus it.

I love the misconceptions about London by people who have never lived here.
Next Pooly, you'll be telling us that the London streets are paved with gold

must be slow news here, when my OH got mugged at knife point that made the local news.
made news a year later when he got mugged again too (he was a cab driver)

It's on the BBC news website - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/eng...hamshire/8266802.stm
Although juding by the article it wasn't all too serious (relative to other stabbings, that is) so I don't see the need for it to be national news, the people that did it were almost certainly from the area
