If you see this car do not approach but inform the police immediately.

OMG!!! Madness!
I hope they get him soon.
He`s a local taxi driver....
The BBC have now reported that this is the most serious gun attack sine the Hungerford massacre.
As I previosuly said - Derrick Bird is extremely dangerous and anyone who sees him should very definitely not approach him but to ring the police on 999.
It seems so far that there are at least 11 people shot with at least 3 of them killed.

He`s shot himself.
Sky news are saying that police have located a body, believed to be that of Derrick Bird.

We are all stunned here, my niece drove past the first shooting with her children and not knowing what had just happened continued shopping. When he was heading for Eskdale my heart sank, it would have been packed with kids off school and using the Little Ratty railway... It's just tragic
Your niece must have been so shocked when she found out what was actually happening, Dame.

Blimey Dame_Anne.....it is tragic and I think the whole Country must be stunned right now...shocking and absolutely heartbreaking...
Shocking. What is it with these nutters, that they need to take other people with them?
It's absolutely awful, I've just had my niece of the phone...He used to work with her husband years ago, he was a joiner. Now he's a taxi driver and as far as we can gather, the first shooting was his mate, and also we are hearing he's killed his mother too. We live in small communities so this might be Chinese whispers, but that's what we have heard so far. As I say it could be wrong, that's just what we are hearing at present.
DiD and Yogi,
My niece just thought there had been a fight at the taxi rank, only after she had parked the car and walked around to Iceland did she hear what had happened and most shoppers were locked inside shops.

Shocking what a nutter, condolences to those whose loved ones have died or are injured.

Thank goodness your niece and her children are okay, Dame. What a horrible experience for them. Things like this affect everyone in a community, not just those directly involved. My deepest sympathy goes to everyone who has been caught up in this horrible tragedy.
How and why does he have a gun and ammunition?

No idea Brisket, I though gun regulations were more stringent nowadays.

I know Suzy It was also the funeral of the young girl killed last week on the school coach at Keswick, to be held in Whitehaven this afternoon, I don't know if that's gone ahead. How dreadful for all the families involved in this today

Doubtless the enquiry will look into thisThis is a link to a BBC article on past mass shootings and the resulting guns legislation.
12 dead plus Bird + 25 in hospital including 3 in a critival state.
It really is an appalling crime.I was absolutely flabbergasted when I heard about it.
My neighbour was telling me when our kids were out playing together and she said it reminded her of the Dunblane massacre when her eldest was in Primary 1 and all the said was 'shooting in the Stirling area' where she nearly fainted and drove straight to her daughters school.
Doesn't even bear thinking about and my thoughts and best wishes are with the victims, their families and everyone involved in this madmans whims

It's a terrible thing to happen, I live near Hungerford where, of course, Michael Ryan did something similar in 1987 (I did not live here then though).
My thoughts are with you Dame and I hope all are safe and well as can be expected x

I remember Dunblane and Hungerford clearly - it's impossible to understand what goes on in these people's minds
