Totally agree it should be banned, or at least regulated so that opponents aren't unfairly put off.

I just posted about Azarenka in the Wimbledon thread, she sounds ridiculous! I see it as a weakness for players to need to make a noise upon striking the ball. It's all connected to breathing, but I don't see why they can't put a stop to it in the players' early training.

Baz, i loved Jimmy Connor, his grunting was fine

Yes it's all Connors' fault.

They are testing a decibel metre here with a view to controlling the level of grunting, point fine system. Victoria Azarenka (sp?) was asked about it and replied (laughing) "God luck with that". I also heard they are trying to stop it with youngsters coming through but they dont feel they can do much with current players.

Silence is dull

But the actual reason why they grunt/make a noise is because they're breathing out and striking the ball, so it's not really that they're making more effort than their silent opponent.

I don't mind a few noises when players have been pushed to their limits and are tired, but to do it on a drop shot or easy volley is just silly. It's a habit for some players i.e. Azarenka and Sharapova.

The seventies and early eighties were the halcyon days I think - it's all so much faster nowadays - you don't get so many exciting rallies and - they're not as nice looking

Actually although it was taken very seriously there did appear to be more fun in the game Ilie Nastase was brill and I loves Adriano Panatta.

does anyone know if there is gonna be any 'veteran' games televised this year? I love those.

Frew McMillan and Bob Hewitt were always fun to watch.

And Evonne Goolagong/Cawley was lovely; so graceful.

Evert used to bore me to tears; Baseline, baseline, baseline.
