There's a nurse just been on my telly screen. She says she's never seen anything like it and was fighting back the tears. I just wish I could hug her and those like her, and those firefighters who actually ran towards the danger
Absolute tragedy. I can't bear to imagine how awful it must have been for the people stuck in there.
They're talking about the 'stay indoors' thing at the minute on the BBC News. I'm torn. I'm all for getting out but if a fire has oxygen it will burn. I'm not gonna put an emote at the end of this post as there is none that is appropriate
November 15, tenants raised their concerns..........to a private landlord yes we know there are private landlords that have scruples but there are some that don't.......
I'm just wondering....where exactly, to those that's lost everything do they even start to pick up the pieces
And on the other hand.....65 people's lives at least have been saved by the fire brigade

It looks like the landlord was the council who farmed out the tower to a management company
10pm and it's STILL ON FIRE
gavin barwell the tory that looks a bit like a golfball with teeth..he was housing officer, until this week when he lost his seat, he was told about the dangers of the local high rises
he ignored it
corbyn put forward a proposal to make housing safer..tories over ruled it
the fire service asked tories to put sprinklers in high rises..they said no
fire service asked for communial fire alarms-tories said no
boris johnson shut 3 fire stations local to the tower & when concern was expressed he told the bloke to 'get stuffed'
the cladding put on the tower was put there to make that tower 'more pleasing to the eye' for the nearby 'posh' neighbours that cladding acted like paper & set the block alight so quick
i tell ya..that tory bunch are b*stards
a few survivors have said that the block HAD TO GO & look how quick it went-in the history of fires in UK no block has ever been burnt down so quick
and the residents have been fighting to keep that block but tories want to 'refurbish' the area
ie
get rid of the blocks of flats so the monied people can buy the land & build
i know i sound like the nutter thats turned up
but im chatting facts
not bullshit
Pirate, I've read a lot of your fact elsewhere today mate so I know you're not a nutter
I nearly cried watching the news this morning, I just hope when the final count is published the number of people who lost their lives isn't as high as I fear it might be
Towering Inferno anyone?
How can every room be on fire all at the same time?
It's been gutted internally and looks like a hollow box
Something has gone terribly wrong
May promises a 'Proper Investigation'. So is she saying that other investigations HAVEN'T been proper?
Paraphrasing Siddiq Khan who was standing close to the burning tower block,
"So come down to the local markets and have yourselves a wonderful day here. What better a way to show your support for the local community"
Yep he said that around 10.30am live on BBC news yesterday
Lives have been horribly lost........people left shattered for the rest of their lives and ....................... it turns into a political argument..............I could cry!

Yep - I understand things need to be done, but the political comment leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth atm (that's not to say that I don't think some of the points made are valid and some make my blood boil - it's just too raw and I'm not even directly affected)

Glad it's not just me then Syd
but it IS political..its money saving & cuts & greed that have allowed this to happen
it might leave a bitter taste
but its GOT to be discussed as there are other blocks in the same predicament..no alarms, only 1 flight of stairs for fire escape (which would be used by both the residents & firefighters) no sprinklers, no fire doors, blocks covered in the same cladding
imagine if YOU lived in one of those blocks
would you sleep easy tonight?

No, I wouldn't sleep, and I would most probably be looking for 'someone' to blame,...........but...........making it into looking for a 'political party' to blame, or the 'rich' is not in my opinion the way to move forward after such a loss of life and trauma...............
This stuff does need 'outing' and made political though and that's the only post I'll make on here tonight as I am now logging off
This link is not political as such but there are people to blame.... This was posted in November 2016 And other concerns were voiced even earlier than that.
It's tragic, made even more so when you realise that those people who lost their lives could possibly have been some of the very same people who were crying out for things to be made safer last year...

I can't believe the latest figures. To use fire resistant panels for cladding instead of the ones they used would have cost ÂĢ2 each more. A total 'saving' of ÂĢ5000. What cost all those lives?
I haven't read/watched much about this until tonight - absolutely harrowing hearing about those people who knew they weren't going to make it. God help those families.
A good story in all this, clever lady probably saved her 6yr old daughter
I can't understand how the fire spread to every room all at the same time?
Just to clarify
I did not make the comments about the Mayor of London as a political statement.
It was made almost as a running commentary of the mornings events and also out of shock toward the inappropriate nature of his comment.

I don't think anyone read it as such Renton

from what i read, the cladding had a gap between each side of the tower & the gap was metal & with cladding either side of it, the gap acted as a chimney & the flames went straight up
obviously, the bloke who said it was just guessing, cos theres been no examination of the tower yet but it seems possible
something else i read earlier
May has called for an inquiry, an inquiry involves just those that call it ie in this case tory government who will present the evidence that they choose to present, call their own experts in & none of the victims or survivors can have their say
an inquest means an impartial judge will listen to both sides, victims can bring in witnesses, evidence, experts etc..of their choosing, they can prove their case with the written statements that were sent to council as far back as a few years, where they warned of the dangers & lack of safety in the block
May chooses the inquiry
and that should tell you a lot
The establishment are going to whitewash this, no one of any importance will get the blame.
May says 'All the residents should be rehoused WITHIN THREE WEEKS'! I appreciate it is not an easy situation, but up to three weeks? And what's happening to them/for them in the meantime?
Apparently the local shopping centre offered to do something to help these people 'immediately', but were turned down by the council. If this is true you can readily understand why various residents bodies want the council excluded from 'assistance talks'!
Why were they turned down Fluffs? anyone else know?
I'm afraid I don't know Sprout. I couldn't see anything more on this other than that one report.
BLOODY HELL!
There has been speculation over whether the cladding used to cover Grenfell Tower contributed to the speed at which the fire spread.
BBC Newsnight has reported that the exterior cladding on Grenfell Tower, added in 2015, had a polyethylene - or plastic - core instead of a more fireproof alternative.
Now comes a statement from the Department for Communities and Local Government: "Cladding using a composite aluminium panel with a polyethylene core would be non-compliant with current Building Regulations guidance.
"This material should not be used as cladding on buildings over 18m in height.
"We cannot comment on what type of cladding was used on the building - this will be subject to investigations."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This means that they've allowed this company to put this cladding on and they don't know what was used!!!!!
Extremely Fluffy Fluffy Thing posted:In his letter, Jeremy Corbyn noted that the government had made it clear that displaced residents would be locally rehoused. But, he wrote:
It now appears that the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea may not be as committed to ensuring that all are re-housed locally. Your public re-commitment to this is imperative as part of an unequivocal, wider statement that the government will do all it can to provide timely practical support to those who have suffered so much. In this context, I note the announcement of the first government investment of ÂĢ5million. Given the magnitude and scale of the crisis, this will clearly not be sufficient and I therefore await information regarding further funding plans.
On a related matter, I believe that an attitude of generosity and compassion in relation to the costs of funeral expenses and ensuring that it is possible for families living outside the UK to travel here to attend funerals, as well as participate in the inquiry, is also warranted in such a tragic situation. This is particularly the case given the circumstances of many of the Grenfell Tower residents, including the number of bereaved families who may be resident overseas and the costs of burial and cremation. As was also raised at yesterdayâs brief discussion in the Grand Committee, I would expect that the Home Office guarantees the replacement, as a matter of urgent priority, of all documentation for those affected.
The more I read the more permanemt become the tears!
