Ditto Ros .....we had friends who took a lot of barge holidays and we went and met up with them for the day when they were on a canal in Cheshire ......you couldn’t swing a cat .....and no real privacy for your ablutions either !

Yes.....we looked at some when we stayed at the Chain Bridge hotel .....many, many moons ago ......although I think some are wider than others

yes studied a lot of Dickens from GCE to Degree - his style is a bit too condensed for me but he was a good author
