Some of these made me chuckle.  PARTICULARLY the one with a superfluous apostrophe...  that drives me mad.  Like when someone puts there are too many car's on the road.  An apostrophe says ownership; (this is cupcake's thread,) and when someone just pops it in, for no reason, it's like

Putting an apostrophe BEFORE the S does not pluralise it!  It just looks mental!

And saying LOOSE instead of LOSE

Some of them are so funny though   Like the NEW COLLEGE who are there to teach people, and cannot spell college right on their sign!

Nobody is perfect and I make errors, but almost all are just typos and not down to downright bloody awful grammar and being a shitty speller!

Don't you mean there is some corker's in there?

Or even there are..... but then again with a subject like this and answers like those, who can tell who is being ironic and who is just being twatty!

Nobody knows...

I too use lots of ...................................don't really know why to be honest. it just feels right. As far as spelling and grammar goes I generally let it go but .........sometimes it irks a bit I have to say.I try very hard to spell correctly but I do have a very sticky 'u' and in all honesty - at the end of the night it very often goes tits up.

Hehe!  I often type one-eyed at the weekend looking for errors to correct. I'm gonna let it all go one of these nights

Good post Marg   I think everyone is entitled to get irked by whatever they choose to let irk them, and they are free to have a moan about it.  But I agree that its not very nice to put people down, and point out their bad grammar/spelling, because some people feel bad enough about it as it is. My hubby is quite bad at English but is very intelligent and good at other things: (science, I.T and model making for a start....)  AND more people are average or poor at English than the number of people who are good at it.

I am good at English, but am not brilliant at maths.  My youngest daughter's friend is brilliant at maths and started her A level at the start of year 11, and she has a 'people who aren't good at maths, are obviously less intelligent than me' attitude, and some who are brilliant at English have this attitude too, and have a low tolerance for people who aren't...  I am guilty of this myself from time to time...  So I agree that actually calling people out on it is out of order, but that said, people are still free to get narked by it.  Everyone has their different irrational dislikes.

What I do hate though is people putting how r u, wot r u doin and horrid shortenings of words like that on forums and message boards.

Unfortunately I don't think they do. They supposedly became a dying breed when spellcheckers came on the scene, but even spellcheckers need proofreaders!
