Well us humans  as usual are wrecking their environment.Orang Utangs live in south East Asia..Borneo,Sumatra...etc.WE want palm sugar etc  for our recipes. So the folk there clear the forrests ,chopping down trees etc,the mothers etc are shot and then we have the babies  as orphans ,tragic.A s a higher ape they have families and bond together(like us) they care and look after their families.....we really are  vermin on the surface of the planet!

We get all worked up about so called vermin to us,rats ,mice etc.We are the ultimate vermin!

You really should see a documentary called 'A Conversation with Koko', absolutely amazing. It's about them working with a particular gorilla called Koko and teaching her how to use sign language to converse.  I cried every time I watched it, I used to have it on vhs, and would love to find it again on DVD.  Anyway, this is a link to the website.

Syd, that documentary shows how deep they think and their emotions, there's a scene where Koko is expressing her want to have a baby, so they get her a kitten to look after until they can find her a suitable mate (they involve her in her choice of mate too using video footage).  So they get her the kitten and she just loves it so much and looks after it.  Then unfortunately the kitten is involved in an accident and dies, the part where they tell her and the aftermath is truly heartbreaking.

Gorillas are absolute vegetarians, despite their size and large canines etc.Very family orientated.Chimps are like us ,omnivores ,they eat veg and meat.I watched that David Attenborough show about nearly 15 years ago when they showed for the first time chimps hunting, and killing  Colubus monkeys.THat blew the chimps out of the water as vegetarians, they are also very territorial and will kill neighbours etc. They go on "raids" around their territory.More like us than gorillas.
