That Sh***t face Hague coming out and now offering a referendum ..............................all total crap. Let them cosy up - see how long it'll last - a disaster waiting to happen. Labour - under a new leader (although I see nothing wrong with GB) will wipe the smiles off their smug faces come the next election which will be much sooner rather than later ..............emergency talks and promises made ......it'll all end in tears.

I agree with you, I have given this some thoght tomight also, and I think it would be for the best...pleade forgive my spelling errors I am completley stupid

Although I am not a Labour supporter, I thought that John Smith was an exceptional man. Other than family bereavements, apart from the assassination of JFK, he is the only other man whose death genuinely shocked me. We need a leader like that now more than ever - a leader that all people regardless of party affiliation can look up to.

I remember where I was when his death was announced. It`s something I`ll never forget.
The shock was almost painful. He was a great man.

It was probably inevitable that GB was gonna step down anyway ....this has simply hastened his annoncement. I have nothing but admiration for the man ..a truly dignified, honourable, principled and above all honest politician. All those screaming for him to vacate No 10 immediately should thank their lucky stars that we still have a man holding the fort who genuinely cares about the future of this country and not his own position. It was a very dignified speech IMO. Just a shame that he doesn't do designer suits and fancy haircuts ...it seems to be what people want.

Excellent post

As an economist, I have to say that GB was one of the most clued up Chancellors this country has ever had. The world wide recession was, well world wide and he put measures in to place to protect public services to protect the needy and vulnerable in this country. I have heard many (some on this forum) testify to that. He was, IMHO not such an effective PM. I still feel a pang of sadness that it came to this, and choked a little seeing him and his family leave Downing St. but politics is a nasty game, and he played nasty too sometimes. I wish him well

I couldn't be more delighted that Gordon Brown has resigned. I hope the new coalition is given a chance to work rather than rushing into another election in the autumn.
Exactly! Maybe this coalition is just what is needed....politicians working together rather than squabbling like schoolboys! It may be too idealistic but wouldn't it be amazing if this actually worked??!
