Col, I really do feel for you, I do   But I really don't have anything after about two months wages coming in to my house. And given what I've seen/what I've dealt with (regards going down the JCP route as regards my job) I really don't wanna go there

I'm with you. If I could still use my car, I'd be out on Dartmoor and have a good scream about the things we seemingly can't do anything about all in the past ). You WILL be alright. you're a capable woman.

Try and look at it as the next step in your life Sprout, be positive about a new departure and challenge, much as I hate to agree with Renton, you could make it the step into a better future.Of course it's scary being made redundant ,but how you approach it will make all the difference to you and how you come out of it.You are made of stern stuff eh? chin up, shoulders back and show the buggers just how good you are!

A lot of people find that doing some voluntary work is useful whilst they're searching for paid employment.  Many local charities are looking for people with various skills and while they are helping out the local community/charity they can also 'keep their hand in' as it were.

I know it may not be for everyone but most people that I know who have undertaken voluntary work have said that it helped them to obtain paid employment

Sprouty.... it's crap being made redundant, I know from experience too.   You're allowed a wee wallow - but that's done now.   Onwards and hopefully soon - upwards!

I assume you've registered with agencies?  Even just temping ones?   That's a good way to get a foot in the door - they can see how capable you are and you're half way there if a permanent job comes up.   Another suggestion, if you've had an interview and been rejected - call them up, thank them for the opportunity and ask for feedback on why you were unsuccessful.   The job market's not what it used to be - a lot of companies look for certain answers/attitudes etc (load of old bollox imo, but hey ho...)   If they tell you why you weren't successful it'll give you pointers for next time and keep you in their mind - it might be you were second choice... and if the first choice doesn't work out (which it often doesn't).....
