Needed. I have just finished "The book thief" by Australian author Markus Zusak. It describes a young girls life and upbringing in Nazi Germany and her relationship with her foster parents. The story is told from Deaths point of view, the grim reaper if you will. I found it to be a very moving and thought provoking read.I totally recommend it.

I would now like to start another book, but I'm hungry for a quality read, any recommendations?

Gel that sounds brilliant! You're so lucky I used to love reading a lot but thanks to the internet and facebook I only read in bed at night now But I love it, it's a great escapism.

Monkey the book I just mentioned has had fantastic reviews, it's been out a few years now but it's on my list of things I want to do in the next few months (I've had that list for the last 10 years mind)

not really jealous about your mobile library

Hey we had to go to the main library a fortnight ago, the mobile was off the road
Hubby picked a book up off a free standing display, when we took it to the counter, she said, oh sorry this isn't a library book, it's for sale!  25p!     So we went back to get another one, as I managed to find a 50p in the bottom of my bag.........  Oh NO NO, the librarian said, it's 25p for 2!  haha

So we went back to get a third and a fourth but couldn't decide on a fourth, so I told her to keep the 50p for the 3!  haha

I prefer a good read to the tripe they put on the TV. It's great escapism, although once I've read a book I usually don't like to see the film. It never lives up to the expectation.

I am going to ask them next time the mobile comes if they have the 'The Book Thief'  monkey, sounds like it could be right up my street    I have a fascination with films/stories set in that time, love 'em  And this sounds with it's peculiar slant to be quite enticing

I have scribbled a note about it and left it on the ktichen table

Thank you.

Hiya Baz

James Patterson blows hot & cold for me, I've either loved some of them and they've forever stayed in my memory, or passed them over with a shake of my head, a little bit erratic at times

And not really into romance & stuff, but one of Pattersons that's forever stayed with me, is Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas     And adored When the wind blows and it's sequel,

Same can be said of Deaver, some are brilliant, totally enthralling, loved the one with the detective in the wheel chair, who can only move his mouth, sorry, given a little time, I could probably dredge up the name   But others, I've had to put down after a couple of chapters

Cornwall, got one of her upstairs and tried a couple in the past, can't get to grips with her at all, I've had to give up with the current one I'm reading, passed it onto my hubby  The first chapter or two were brilliant, then it just fizzled out and I lost all interest

However, I do love blood & gore and crime novels, and I would fully recommend  The Torment Of Others, by Val McDermid!     Terrifying!

Hi there  Gel Lucas Davenport...I think.... I do tend to get  the *serial* characters mixed up I  have to admit that I agree with you about the authors blowing hot and cold, and sometimes the storyline seems to get wrapped up far to quickly (and not always convincingly) in the last couple of chapters...which annoys me intensely!!!  But I also like Jonathon Kellerman and  Faye Kellerman,  the latter I found particularly interesting as the main character's wife is an orthodox Jew, which adds a very informative dimension to the stories....

NO!  It was Lincoln Rhyme Baz..... It came to me!  woohoo

Ever read Neil Gaiman?  Very intriguing and stands out in the mind, for me that is, there were two, we still have them somewhere, Anansi Boys and Neverwhere

Do you know Deaver is writing the next bond novel, for Ian Flemming Productions!   and  woohoo

Just googled this author Pengy and it came up with the "Lightning thief" Sounds very good. Which age group are they aimed at?
The books have him as a young teenager whereas the film has him as 16ish.  I think it's aimed at teenagers but to be honest I thoroughly enjoyed them.  I read the whole lot in a week   They are actually very good at telling you about Greek mythology without preaching it, if you know what I mean?

Whoo...hoo.... about the Bond
sometime in 2011 it's coming out, now that was really helpful wasn't it

Baz, I have these two Gaiman ones going spare  If you want me to send them to you I will

I know I don't know you that well yet, but if you want to take me up on my offer, message me on fb      They are a little bit different, from the usual stuff I read, and from the usual stuff you read, but had me hooked from the start

I must say at this point to everyone..... My favourite author of recent years is Brian Lumley and his 'Necroscope' series.....  I have the whole set, and the off shoots, absolutely, totally brilliant

Sorry Monkey , I didn't mean to ramble on for ever and a day about my preferences
