Radio 5live had an American correspondent on last night who said that it's common practice over there for the host of any award show to do his/her bit and then disappear for ages, come back towards the end and wind the whole thing up. (Even more in his case. )

I can't stand Ricky Gervais.
I think he is a rather bumptious little man who thinks he is funny - but isn't.
I don't like nasty humour much either.
He should look at himself.

He`s actually a very kind man. He`s aware of the wrongs in the world and cares. His delivery is acerbic but I completely get it.

The British comedian left the podium for nearly an hour, prompting viewers to question if he was being reprimanded for his jokes about the stars.

But in a statement, Gervais said: "I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap."

He added: "The atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great."

 

In the latter part of the show, having been off stage for a lengthy period of time, a more subdued Gervais appeared, prompting speculation he had been told to tone down his act.

But Gervais insisted: "I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for, and who I knew had a good sense of humour.

"Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great."

US critics appeared divided, with The Los Angeles Times saying his jokes set "a corrosive tone" for the night.

But Entertainment Weekly praising "the sort of funny rudeness and effrontery... that make an awards show such as the Golden Globes engaging to watch."

According to overnight viewing figures, the ceremony was seen by almost 17 million people in the US, up on last year's audience.

I actually love the fact that he's taken the typical schmaltzy Hollywood award ceremony and shocked the life back into it with some choice 'comedy roast' style jokes. Genius

Watching Robert De Niro cracking up at the Hugh Hefner joke has just cheered me up after a very crappy day at work.

I loved Gervais on it. He ripped the piss out of the fakeness and it was trés refreshing. Even with his interjections, it still had the over the top, gushing, unnecessary appraisals with fake smiles and fake losing faces, but he brought a good kick up the arse balance. Colin Firth's speech was the one I found the most genuine, tbh.

I think I already talked about that Melissa Leo woman, who would have had a Moet bottle shoved in her gob sideways if I'd been in the audience. One of the highlights was the Danish bird in the white frock, all teeth and lils, she looked like she'd just popped in from the karaoke night down the pub.

I don't really think it was very good because he is not a kosher person. The way he hosted the Globes was exactly the way he behaved as Brent in the office. Either he is no actor or he is no comedian. Any which way, he's carp.
