It would be interesting to find out the percentage of FM's who think that global warming is caused by man or just a natural cycle which the earth goes through.

Natural cycle but accelerated by man.
Too much trumping
A part of the natural cycle, but dramatically speeded up by humankind!
Agree with katty and kimota
natural cycle
A bit of both.
Its the gas coming out of prince charlies mouth
i'll assume by"man" you mean humans of both sexes ..and so i voted for that
when you look at how the temperature changed dramatically when all the planes in the USA were grounded after 9-11, it's a bit difficult to say our pollution has no effect on climate

Yes ds 'man' in the generic sense, ie mankind, to put humans seemed a little clumsy
Agree totally. So it's hard for me to pick one sorry.quote:Originally posted by kattymieoww:

I have never accepted "man" as the generic....obviously first thought up by some bloke who didn't want to credit women with any input to anything
I shall continue to complain till everyone uses humankind....so there
I think that the issue is far more complex than mere global warming. It's not only about nature, it's also about ourselves.
we aint BEEN HERE long enough to know, we only just arived fer gawds sake,
There have been ice ages when no humans (well still evolving etc)covered a lot of the planet, the UK was under thousands of feet of ice,the ice sheets stretched well into Europe. That's why the mountains etc in Scotland are rounded rather than high jagged peaks like "young" mountains like the Andes. The North sea was once land, a tropical forrest ,fishing boats are still pulling up mammoth bones etc.

I alway remember the programme a while back with David Attenborough(I loves him!) about the time line of the planet. It was compared to a 24 hour clock, man appeared at one second to midnight.

yeah saw a programme that said that Scotland is still recovering from all those tons of glacial ice and is still bouncing back and rising in height...at the cost of southern England which is sinking in response
That should please you Scots

its what I am saying, the arrogance of humanity, this planet has got along FINE for the vast majority of its life WITHOUT US, and it will do ok LONG after we have gone,
the planet has been thought MANY stages in its life, for most of its life we couldnt have lived here, we are just a bit of a rash it has to sort out,
if the entire life of this planet was compressed into 24 hours the FIRST life began at about 11.35 pm, and WE got here at about 4 seconds to midnight, and already we think we know it all,

Oh, hands across the ocean!
Man made. The rate of change is too quick to be natural.
Natural process... The earth goes through the hot and cold phase... We humans really think we are that special
Also the global warming industry is booming.... My professors at my Uni tell me that if you want government grant, put global warming in your proposal....

While we all ponder over this fact or fiction, the government is making millions and terrifying people... The dinosaurs and other animals that lived are extinct so we may go too...

We are, so far, a mere blip on the evolutionary scale.Dinosaurs were on the planet for tens of millions of years,we barely rate a few hundred thousands.
Its a scary thought though....I wonder which new specie will emergequote:Originally posted by kattymieoww:quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:

Nothing scary about it for one we won't be here to witness it and another natural cycle ending.

It was the best thing that could happen for the Government. Raise taxes on lots of things for the sake of the planet. You dont want to destroy the planet and kill the little kittens do you. So pay up.
Flooding, its global warming, heat wave, its global warming, a drought, its global warming, earth quake its global warming.
All these things have happened before and we have had much bigger temperature changes too. We really have no clue what effect we are having though it would be good if we didnt use up all the worlds resources and limit our population but thats never going to happen.
If I have to hear another rock star tell me to turn of my TV and light bulb whilst burning god knows how much megawatts to power a concert on behalf of
From what I understand we're supposedly in a warm interlude in the midst of an ice age and the temperature curve should really be heading downwards rather than up. There may be some exaggeration going on as to how bad the situation could become but I believe that this change is almost totally man made.quote:Originally posted by hal:quote:Originally posted by captain marbles:

As long as it takes more than 50 years to cause significant problems then, well, I cannae be arsed.

Exactly.... Just another money making scheme and these celebrities who fly everywhere with their private jets are hypocrites themselves...quote:Originally posted by CaptVimes:quote:Originally posted by pretty~cocoa~eyes:

Natural cycle. Man isn't THAT powerful.

Not at all a good thing for Capitalist based governments at all......Capitalism is not about cutting back, it's about making more and more stuff and selling stuff abroad....the more cars etc the merrier
The biggest sign that something is really being caused by humans is that the USA is taking it seriously at last...it's not in their interests at all and they've spend years trying to supress the info
I'm happy to go with majority scientific opinion on this...and i wonder why so many can dismiss it so easily
....is it because they don't want to believe because if they did they just might feel they will have to make changes themselves
