I think they were downsizing into that adjoined house Ros….then they saw this place and sold the adjoining cottage ….don’t know where they lived before ….but I’m guessing it was probably quite grand

yes, we always stay in a hotel if we need to stay overnight to visit family. (doesn't happen very often though)
