I used to love them, but between Anfonee and now Charlie, I can't bear them any more.

My friends wife got mortally offended when I first met her. I asked her if she was from Newcastle and she looked horrified and told me in no uncertain terms she was from Middlesborough

She won't much like you misspelling Middlesbrough then will she?
I think she should have been flattered actually, the Tees-side accent is f*ckin' awful.
I come from Tees-side but live on Tyneside so I've got a mixed up accent and now some people ask me if I'm a scouser!!

Did I not spell it right? Whoops
I get offended if people think I'm from Edinburgh. Mind you I get offended when I meet English people who go "och aye the noo" when they hear me speak

And yet, one of our suppliers (I used to work for Safeway/Morrisons in admin) thought I had a Scots accent

How...very...dare.. you.
Lemontops at thirty paces.
I'm from Darlington and i've always thought the boro accent had a little bit of scouse in it. It's the way they say 'shirt' or 'skirt'. Someone told me it's because loads of liverpudlian dockers came to teeside early last century (or something like that)

Yeah, I can see that. Or rather hear it!
I'm from Teesdale so my accent is a teeside/north yorkshire hybrid. Consequently, no-one can really tell where I'm from.
We have loads of different accents in the north east really.

Before I lived in Newcastle and Co Durham, I couldn't understand a bloody word people said from up there. Now it's all crystal clear. Strange really. It's like I needed to synchronise to the noise for a while.

It's a port thing. They say the same in the mystery area that is Hull.
I love the Geordie accent and I do understand it as a lot of their words are the same as the Scottish accent, I do find it hard to understand a lot of what Charlie is saying as he gets to excited and talks to fast, then sort of mumbles at the end of his sentences

Plus most of the time, when one does work out what he is saying, it's rubbish

I'm from Durham but now live in Newcastle, and many of my neighbours who were born and bred in Newcastle think I sound rather well spoken
