Was just thinking, why is it generally more acceptable (by fellow forum members) to say more controversial and offensive things on football forums compared to a forum like this? I'm not talking about posts on the particular subjects (football and BB) I'm talking more off topic things in general. The rules are pretty similar on both types of forums to be honest, but I'm talking about posts that don't necessarily break the rules.

I've found in my time (and this isn't a criticism, just an observation) that members on forums such as this one tend to take offence to things much easier and much more frequently than members of football forums do. On forums like this certain things are less acceptable. So why is this?

It's an interesting thing to think about. The reason I ask is because TV show forums and football forums are really the only 2 types of forums I go on, but you kind of have to watch your step on forums like this, not just in terms of rule breaking.

Anyone else noticed this if they visit football forums and forums like this? What are your views on it, any ideas why it is?

Football fora are feckin scary places. i don't mind a bit of banter and digging but out and out nastiness isn't for me tbh. I find myself wanting to reach through the screen and strangle some of the fms on them.
You're one of the good guys though Crunchy, you can give it out but can also take it without throwing a flounce which not many can do - probably myself included.
Ducky - maybe it's the fact that a lot of us have known eachother on here for a good few years; familiarity breeding contempt and all that

This is the only forum I post on.......but when I tell my teenage son, who frequents many forums, about some of the goings on/disagreements/flounces in here, he thinks we're all nut jobs. Apparently this place is not the norm.
I don't necessarily think people on here are nut jobs. There are a lot of highly strung old people who probably haven't taken their pills properly and have been let loose at the computer, but not nut jobs.

However what I do notice about this place is that certain things that tip people over the edge here and by over the edge I mean flouncing or being highly offended, would probably not even bat an eyelid in a footie forum.

I find it interesting that 2 different types of forums on the internet, but both containing people that probably all socialise together in day to day life whether it be work, uni or otherwise, can be so different in terms of this.

I think there's a lot too that Veggie. I always defend the place by saying it's more a social forum than a discussion forum..... a completely different kettle of fish.
are you defending gagajoy as a whole, because i tip my cap to that, but this forum is a section in the gagajoy empire that is for DISCUSSING big brother..even though it is nice as was c4 for a bit of socialising if thats what socialising is for the individual.

I agree...... it's just this place (I mean Gaga.... not all LC) is so much smaller then C4 that it's harder to get away from the social aspect. On C4 it felt more anonymous when you posted your views, most of the time you wouldn't recognise one poster from the next. Here, because there are so few of us in comparison, even when we discuss BB it still feels like a discussion between friends (or at least aquaintances). I think tempers can flare more easily in a situation like this as sometimes I think it can be more difficult to accept criticism/disagreement from people you "know".

Or I could just be talking bull..... it's way past my bedtime.
