Gem Crab ID

Decapitate Alan Sugar - Lancaster
edit: oops already solved.
3 things to sort out - the crabs clue and the choice between my or iMcGenius' solutions for 9 and 4.
....and any alternatives that may be suggested later.
iMcGenius for 9 and 4...for me
Crabs have passports - Cambridge?
Gem Crab ID
A wild guess
It shouldn't be Cambridge, as that was an answer in the first round. I can't think of anything better though
Except I just have - it's St. Davids.
Crabs = STD
have = av
Passports = IDs
Crabs have passports
According to my husband (whose answer this is) there is a Glass Crab...and a passport allows you to go so GLASGOW
Except I just have - it's St. Davids.
Crabs = STD
have = av
Passports = IDs
Oooooooo
Crabs have passports - Cambridge?
Gem Crab ID
A wild guess
You may well be right. I get the crab ID, OK. But I don't see where the 'GEM' comes from.
Also as Wothingwire has just pointed out, Canbridge is no longer an option.
Except I just have - it's St. Davids.
Crabs = STD
have = av
Passports = IDs
That's good. But that then means we're looking for 'March 1st?' again.
I think Worthingwire has put MARCH FIRST back in play
I am not saying this just because I want MY answers to be right, but as these are tie-breaker questions don't you think they would be a bit more ingenious than straight forward anagrams?
Having said that - my answer of Winchester for 5 is an anagram.
Maybe the Romans had to march first to win Chester = Winchester ???
All not quite so clear anymore:-
10. SPOILT CHILD LIFE - Lichfield
9. HOT OSMAN PUT OUT - Brighton or Southampton
8. MARCH FIRST? - St Davids ?
7. TRAINEE GODFATHER - London
6.SO FASHIONABLE, THERE'S UPROAR - Chichester
5. WE SENT RICH MAD - Winchester
4. INEXPERT HEALER - Durham or Perth
3. CRABS HAVE PASSPORTS - St Davids ?
2. MOOB EMERGENCY - Manchester
1. DECAPITATE ALAN SUGAR - Lancaster

Hee hee Fluffs, does that mean your Lichfield answer is back in play?
Maybe the Romans had to march first to win Chester = Winchester ???
Naww. that's gone on a bleeding anagram !!!

I didn`t realise that repeats weren`t allowed on the tiebreakers. Oh well...thinking cap on again.

Hee hee Fluffs, does that mean your Lichfield answer is back in play?
Yep, I've just spoiled some of my own answers!
All not quite so clear anymore:-
10. SPOILT CHILD LIFE - Lichfield (hmm....anagram)
9. HOT OSMAN PUT OUT - Brighton or Southampton (hmm....anagram)
8. MARCH FIRST? - St Davids ? or Oxford
7. TRAINEE GODFATHER - London
6.SO FASHIONABLE, THERE'S UPROAR - Chichester
5. WE SENT RICH MAD - Winchester (hmm....anagram)
4. INEXPERT HEALER - Durham or Perth (hmm....anagram) - I know it's not really an anagram, but has the same simplicity.
3. CRABS HAVE PASSPORTS - St Davids ?
2. MOOB EMERGENCY - Manchester
1. DECAPITATE ALAN SUGAR - Lancaster
Crabs have passports - Cambridge?
Gem Crab ID
A wild guess
You may well be right. I get the crab ID, OK. But I don't see where the 'GEM' comes from.
"GEM" comes from the Gem crab apple tree.
10. SPOILT CHILD LIFE - Lichfield
Has to be Lichfield, it's an anagram of Child Life (the clue is 'spoilt').
9. HOT OSMAN PUT OUT - Southampton
I don't think this can be anything else except Southampton.
it's an anagram of hotosmanput. Richard obviously chose this because it included his name.
8. MARCH FIRST?
St. David's would seem an obvious choice, as the 1st of March is St. David's day -but would Richard choose a clue that was so literal?
7. TRAINEE GODFATHER - London
London would seem to be a good answer, based on 'L' for trainee and Don for Godfather. If you were a trainee Godfather you would be wearing 'L' plates; hence the L on Don.
6.SO FASHIONABLE, THERE'S UPROAR - Chichester
100%. Chic is a word for fashionable, and if you rearrange THERE'S, you get 'hester' (another anagram element).
5. WE SENT RICH MAD - Winchester
It may be another anagram, but I am sure it's inclusion is due to the use of the 'Rich' reference. Mad is the key word - if you rearrange WESENTRICH you get Winchester.
4. INEXPERT HEALER - Perth
A clue like this would normally be worded IN EXPERT HEALER (as in, the answer is part of EXPERT HEALER). The fact that IN and EXPERT were combined to make one word does not change the fact that Perth is contained between the two words.
3. CRABS HAVE PASSPORTS - St David's
I would be more inclined to assign St David's to this clue; it fits perfectly.
Crabs is an STD + av (for have) + ID's for Passports.
It's possible the answer St. David's was used twice, as this was not part of the main quiz and Richard may have liked both clues. Or #8 has a different answer.
2. MOOB EMERGENCY - Manchester
Pretty straightforward, and actually a derivative of a clue from day 2 (using EMERGENCY for ER). Moob = Man Chest + ER.
1. DECAPITATE ALAN SUGAR - Lancaster
Probably chosen as the winner for it's comedic value (already been explained).
FWIW, I think the tiebreakers had to be cities which weren't included in the original forty. He then just posted what he considered were the best ten clues submitted, i.e. it could well be that certain cities could appear more than once in the tiebreakers.
Well, that puts a whole new inflection on it - the answers to the tiebreakers could be anything then, Umpteen of them could have the same answer!
Are we not getting answers?
Do we go to our graves forever wondering?
Aww Fluffs. Richard Osman must be off for the weekend. It must be killing you, but keep on believing you're right
Ooow i might have to look that one up.
