Err, hang on a mo. What about adopted kids/kids from previous relationships/aging parents?

Yes but on average what is the likelihood of this being the case? i din't say it wasn't possbile I just said it wasn't as common.

Maybe you should have said most gays don't have children, if that's what you believe constitutes a family Razzer

I though it might have been obvious with the line 'family to support'
My point was merely that children aren't the only family members ever supported and that a family need not contain children.

Gay women seem much the same actually
What's with the children? I seriously don't get why one needs to have kids to be considered a family?

I'm thrilled to hear that gays and geighs totally prefer being single and 'sociable' to forming lifelong relationships. Glance

I don't think it's as uncommon as you think. I know quite a few gay couples and singles who have kids, some adopted and some not. The 'nuclear' family isn't as clear cut as it once was. I have loads more friends, both straight and gay, who don't have kids than those who do. I don't think the birds and bees comment was fair though, most of these childless couples have made a socio-economic decision, biology has little to do with it.

But are they willing to support us? Ninja

Don't go with her and her 2 baybees, they will just drain you of all your geigh wealth. Come with me, I only have the one and he is just about ready for leaving home, so we can spend all the money on shoes and hot pants.

Queenie, on the grand scale it is very uncommon, I had to do a research assignment of that very topic so I do know a bit about it! I admit the birds and bees comment was uncalled for, but much like childless straight couples they have more disposable income and as gays are not able to have children biologicaly this dramitcally reduced the liklihood of them having children so I think the gay couple are less likely to have children to support is less a harsh statement and more a reality based on the facts.

It’s just a turn of phrase, a very common one - surely you know that?

No one when asked β€˜do you have a family’ thinks the asker is referring to siblings/parents, they mean do you have kids.

my boyfriend is gay and i love him too Wink and we have 5 kids (fostered) that is our family but we also have parents and siblings which are also family.

I didn't say no gay people had children, I simply said it wasn't as common. Also when you speak of your parents/siblings are you sole providers for these people? Do you put food on the table for them, pay their bills etc?
I
In terms of marketing... we all get stereotyped... we get stereotyped by the car we drive, the brand of white goods we buy, the number of kids we have, our postcodes, our sexual orientation, etc etc etc.

Most of us get that these are just that... stereotypes... generalisations.

In reality, most of us can fit into lots of categories... or not tick all the boxes we 'should' in our pigeonhole!

DINKys (double income no kids) is another one!

(btw... when I did my marketing module... I did sit there gob smacked and wide eyed. It felt very very wrong to be generalising in such terms)

When I'm asked why I live so far from my family I never think "Oh, I have no kids, so who on earth are these people referring to?" Confused

Sorry to be picky, but what you said was that geighs don't have families to support.

Sorry I though people would have understood that I mean children when I said family. Almost everyone has family such as parents/siblings etc, but how many people financially support these people?
