My ex was a gardener ....and when I first moved up here I worked for a landscaper for a year or so ...in the office ...know nothing about gardening , but did pick up a few Latin words

Gardening IS therapy
I know this is not a popular view, but I do think that for all those unemployed people out there, spending a day or two a week, working in gardens, public spaces or green areas like forests, might give them a new sense of purpose and camaraderie. As well as new skills and friends. But also doing something useful and of benefit to wider society.

I can see a move towards local councils giving up their responsibility for parks and gardens âĶ and charities taking up the task with volunteers

Yes, I enjoy watching the sparrows in the town centre that compete with the pigeons for scraps of food. But they are so funny, because they come within 60 cms of you and just look at you as if to say "give me something will ya"
