George Martin is taking forever to write the books too, I've been waiting two years for the next book and he's still no where near finishing it could be another 2-3 yrs down the road 

Oh no, i do hope people don't lose interest before it's made into a show!

Apparently there's about a book and a half of the completed books to film ?

It's really hard to say but i think it's a bit more than that. Because he tends to write about one scenario, like Danaerys, for a good bit, then change to the Wall and Jon Snow for a while, then go to Kings Landing..... the show is probably up on the book story line to the end of book 3. Brilliant books and the series is amazing.... even if little bits get left out that niggle
