Erin I completely agree and feel angry as hell. Why am I being questioned by Growly in the first place. The guy needs to go, no question.
i meant by ' keeping our beaks out' that the arabs need no no intervention from the west, what america thinks and what europe thinks matters not a jot, they need and are dying for self determination, i hope they succeed.
and yes the tunisian uprising was ignited by a protester setting fire to himself rather than continue to live under a dictatorship, and the protest was continued on facebook and twitter and brought about the eventual demise of ben ali ,
it must be the first technology driven revolution we have witnessed, but its not the west shoving its beak in, its the disenfranchised using a tool that has been made available to them .
in the words of some from the telly 'power to the people'

Gaddafi will not want the world to see images of the bloodbath that is taking place under his orders.

Yes of course Gaddafi needs to go, but this needs to be done by his own people. It is not the place for us or any other country to interfere in the affairs of another state. Our invasion of Iraq brought about the death of countless thousands of innocent civilians. I hope that our current government does not have the same disregard for international law.I agree Jackson. They all have the same voice as us.

you are being questioned by growly because it seemed, from your posts, that you think the solution to the problem of gadaffi is to get rid of him( which i think we all agree with) by some interference from the west, and its that interference that has caused many of the problems in the past that we now have to deal with.
We have no right to interfere....indeed the UN charter does state that a foreign force may only enter a country if that country actually asks for assistance....as Kuwait did during the first Iraq war....We had no business hanging on to the USA's coat tails in their Afghan and Iraqi adventures.
With a bit of luck Gaddafi will end up swinging from a lamp post...but the aftermath may be as bad as the present mayhem.

Col.....you are being a bit idealisitic.....nothing wrong with that, but in this pragmatic world countries will, and should act in accordance with their own interests.....and breaking international law once again is not in the UK's interests. Whatever the heart feels, the head must be listened to.

I'm not talking about our army going in there, but I am talking about keeping Facebook, hotmail and twitter alive so that people can talk to us and convey the carnage that is happening in the country.
Ok then - leave practical interference out of it.
But I believe people have every right to express opinions where fellow human beings are being harmed.
Don't think of it as crossing borders - think of it as all being fellow citizens of the same world.

I don't think that anyone here does not feel sympathy for the Libyan people, unfortunately that is all we can give themBut I believe people have every right to express opinions where fellow human beings are being harmed.

It is a very emotive subject ,I do have to say that politics of the middle east is extremely complicated,it has been since the WW1.Over the years allegiances have shifted like the sand.
Soryy, I seem to be out of cink (sp)
I do think that there is a possibility to get rid of Gadaffi especially as the people of Lybia seem to be behind the revolution.

it dont like he will go quietly. theres going to be alot of lives lost thats for sure. as i said on another thread the worlds gone mad this year. whats happening earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, uprisings, wheres this all going to end.
Under normal circumstances he would be "sectioned".
@GodTweeteth said: 'Not looking forward to Gaddafi arriving. It'll be a case of mind over martyr.'
Gaddafi can only be a martyr if his people are behind him and revere him. I think not in this case.
That's power for you - coupled with a big blob of intimidation!
The man is clearly mad to put it bluntly.
Utterly delusional, of unsound mind, unbalanced, unhinged, crazy, crackers.
If it was an ordinary citizen like me, I would be sectioned and in a psychiatric ward.
But he is still there. Blatantly lying. He now says there has been no violence.
It saddens me to think of people being killed simply because this man is bonkers.

The government are considering military action ...
We have the right and a duty to prevent genocide.
A no fly zone is the least we can do.

I don't agree.....we haven't the power to enforce anything, since our planes and warships have been either mothballed or done away with.
We also have no right under the UN charter to interfere in another state's internal affairs...it is not our job to effect a regime change, desirable though that is.
Tony Blair was wrong to go into Iraq.....it would be equally wrong for Cameron to go into Libya
