No its not another anti Bea thread! Anyone know what this is likely to be. We live in a country area and a tiny weeny little creature has just run across my lawn. Its brown, really small about 1 and a half - 2 inches and I couldn't see a long tail. It looks really blunt around its head, like a fat bullet shape and it scurries. I looked up images of a shrew and a field mouse but it doesn't really look like either of them and I am at a loss to think what else it could be to check out a piccie.

Can I ask a question? You're all so good on things. Last week I had something come flying through the kitchen door which looked like a dragon fly, but was huge, at least 10 times the size of a dragon fly. It sounded a wee bit like a small helicopter, I was actually a bit scared of it because it was panicking in the enclosed space, but I managed to somehow guide it out. The only time I've seen anything vaguely like it was in Nigeria, but you expect it there. Smiler

Any ideas? Thank you.

Must have been a sort of dragon fly. You get dragonflies and damsel flies. One sort fold their wings when they land and one keep them open, can never remember which is which. We have a pond so see quite a few and some of them are absolutely huge and sound, like you say, like small helicopters. I love to watch 'em, here is a link to one site but it might be worth a search to track down the one you saw.

Dragonflies are much, MUCH bigger, and their wings are always held horizontally outwards.

Correct. We get a lot of dragonflies in our garden and they are huge! It was one heck of a shock when we had our first one flying straight towards us the first summer we moved here. Eeker Big Grin

Oh and the funny little creature sounds very like a young vole. We have lots of those here too, big ones and wee ones. Smiler
