ANNOCA 216 Forum Posts Today at 16:21 HE IS HERE!!!!  I hope you all like the new Forum puppy. He is a real snuggler!!  He has been here about half an hour now and has made his "inspection"!!  He seems pleased with himself and has eaten and had a drink of water and gone and done his business in the garden - so he is making himself at home already.  He loves to be cuddled and YES - he has washed my face!!
Oh Annoca I am so pleased for you, and the pictures show how cute Dante is. He is doing amazingly well settling in so quickly, he must like you.
Hi Dante, you have found yourself a lovely mistress who is going to love you as much as you will love her. Try not to make too much mess or damage in the house
LowonIQ
Thank you all for your good wishes for Dante.

I am amazed that he is settling in so well.  He has only had one "panic" moment where he thought he had "lost" me!!  I went to the bathroom - he thought I had gone to the bedroom and shot out of the livingroom - past the bathroom - down the hall and into the bedroom, found that I wasn't there and galloped back up the hall - past the bathroom again - and into the livingroom.

When he couldn't find me he stood in the doorway and made a sort of yodeling noise!!  I called him and he followed my voice and was very relieved to "find" me.

His little tail wagged furiously and he jumped up and down giving little squeaks of delight.

This forum has been a lifeline for me and I am SO grateful for the friends I have made here.  I have met a lot of people during my life but NONE as caring and supportive as you all have been.

I hope and pray that these friendships continue for many years and that perhaps some of us may actually meet in real life at some point.

Dante sends snuggles, hugs and Brabancon kisses to all his other Mums and Dads!!!

ahhhh!   I can't really say anything coherant.

I'd told hubby all about you ... from the start of this thread.    I read out your first post today to him... and showed him the Dante pics and now he's addicted too!

He thinks Dante looks fab...

and when I just read out your last post... when I got to the yodelling bit he went all mushy and ahhhhed like a girl!

Dirtyprettygirlthing
lol!  I have passed that on Annoca... he says he'd be proud to .... he likes the look of Dante.   He says he is well impressed that such a little boy that has travelled so far has slotted into his new home so quickly.  He likes brave courageous little dogs.

And as for tonight... you are gonna be getting middle of the night face licks I reckon!

Annoca, I'm so very pleased you have got Dante home where he belongs safe and sound.

I will hold up my hands and say when I first read the beginning of this thread, when little Remy went I had tears in my eyes and was very sad for you, but I had no idea how much love you can feel for a dog. Previously all my life I've had one pet, my cat ‘Muffin' she went 10 years ago aged 18 I thought I could never ever get another cat as the heartache of losing her was more than I thought possible. 18 days ago I got my little Yorkie, now I regret all the years I've missed out owning a dog. The pleasure of having him is so hard for me to try and explain, but you and all the other loving dog owners in the world will know what I mean.

Dante is the Forum dog, I look forward to all your posts telling us about his antics. He's also very handsome, but he would be with Remy as a relative. I'm so happy for you.

Welcome Home Dante

(only he won't go out clubbing, won't bugger off to make his way in life, leaving you worrying about him!!)
He won't join the Army thats for sure.
Monet is my new baby, but I absolutely will not be dressing him up in stupid dog clothes, he can have a coat, but only because it's recommended in rain & cold.
I've been watching all the " It's me or the Dog" on 4OD catchup, one owner even had her dog wearing stripey freakin legwarmers.

Dante doesn't have a choice whether he wears coats or not as he has to wear his Service Dog vest at all times when he is out with me.

With small breeds of dog - like Monet and Dante - it is essential that they wear a coat in cold weather.  In conditions such as snow, it is also advisable for them to wear tiny boots.  If they don't, they can get a condition called Hardpad which is very painful and difficult to cure.

However, I would not "dress up" any dog in some of the ridiculous clothes that I have seen for sale in pet shops.

A yodelling dog!
Your description of him dashing from room to room has reminded me of Verdell (the little dog in As Good As It Gets - also a griffon) checking out every room in Jack Nocholson's apartment when he gets shut in there alone for the first time

Well - Dante and I slept well for four hours last night, after which he woke up and wanted to play.  We played for an hour, went back to bed and he slept again with no problems.

It is SO good to feel his little body in bed beside me.

He is so good since he arrived, I am beginning to think the big ears (which he will grow into as he matures) are, in fact, wings!!!

He follows me everywhere and watches everything I do.

Today is the first full day he is here, so we will start work on getting his "routine" sorted out.
ANNOCA
Dante and I have spent our first full day together and it has been wonderful.  He is just SO good  -  I keep wondering when the "be a good boy" spell will wear off.

I took him out for a walk on the lead to see if he would walk on it and he was brilliant.

If a stranger is approaching him, he will stop and stare at them to see if he knows them.  If he doesn't know them, he moves from my left side to the right side and keeps on walking and then checks to see if they are following us.

Brabancons are, by nature, very standoffish with people at first.  Ther best they will allow a person they don't know to do is to pat their head.  As they get to know people, they will hold out their paw to shake hands with them.

He has only had a small nap at lunchtime today so he should be ready for a full night's sleep tonight.

He is a very tactile dog - as was Remy - so he does do some things just like she did.

When it comes to stairs or steps, he is hesitant going down, but he flies up them with no problems.

We are heading off to bed shortly so I will let you know how that went, tomorrow morning.

Dante sends love and Brabancon kisses to all.  Talk to you all tomorrow.

Dante and I had a full nights sleep last night!!  He was great!!

He had his breakfast, did his business in the garden and is now rearing to go.  Today could be very interesting as the "newness" of everything is wearing off for him and he is becoming very confident about where he is and what he is doing.

I am going to bring him to the park today to feed the ducks and swans.  Remy and I did this every day and she regarded the birds as "hers".

The birds got to know Remy very well and always came out of the water and gathered around us to have the food we brought.

I am sure the birds are wondering where she is, but hopefully, they will accept Dante as well as they did Remy, and that he will enjoy going to feed them every day.

I will let you all know how it goes when we get back.
ANNOCA
The trip to the park was a disaster!!!  The ducks wouldn't come anywhere near us!!  They stayed at the far end of the lake.  Also, brought the camera with me, went to take some photos, and the battery was dead!!

SO, we are going to have to go again tomorrow and the next day and the next day. . . . . . .until the ducks get the message.

Dante enjoyed the whole thing though!!  SO many new smells and new things to see.  He didn't even notice the ducks but thought I had gone mad, throwing the bread into the water - and dried to jump in after it!!  It is no wonder the ducks weren't having any hand, act or part in that.

He is shattered now and having a nap.  I just have to make sure that he doesn't sleep for too long, or he will wake up and want to play again during the night.

Never mind some times these happen, better luck in the days to come

Good Grief!!  Have I done something wrong??  You all know that I am not what you call computer literate!!

My electrical supply has been intermittent - to put it politely - due to the floods from the snow - and I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked out the window to see that it was snowing again!!!

Dante and I didn't make it to the park today because of the way the electricity was but we will be off there tomorrow for sure.

Because we were staying home today, I decided to see just how much intelligence Dante has for a puppy.  I have to do this in order to report back to the association.

First of all, he had his breakfast, and then a run around the garden at HIS leisure.   NO snow at this stage.

In he came and began playing with his new "mouse" that I got him.  Remy LOVED her mouse, so I got Dante one.  I will explain the "mouse" connection with the breed at a later time.

Then I decided to see if he had bonded with me - in that he was listening to me.

WOW!!!  What a little star!!  He knows his name, he knows what NO means, he asks to go out to potty.

So I stepped it up a gear.  I dropped food (dog friendly, of course) onto the ground which he promptly gobbled up.  I dropped kitchen utensils onto the floor which, initially gave him a fright, but he did the right thing in ignoring them.

Then I moved on to the BIG guns.  I had reservations about doing this within myself - but by the same token, I had to know what he was capable of.

I dropped cheese, by "so called" accident onto the floor and just as Dante was going in to suss it out, I dropped my insulin case.

For such a young baby he ASTONISHED me!!  ALL dogs LOVE cheese and Dante was just getting his smellers around the aroma when down came the case.

I was left speechless  to see him immediately discard the cheese and go and pick up the case and bring it to me.

This little guy will be six months old next Tuesday!!  Remy would be SO proud of him!!

Later in the afternoon, I again decided to "test" his attention span and whether he was, in fact "listening" to me.

I sat on the couch - with the TV on - Loose Women, I think, but don't hold me to that!!

Dante was pottering around very happily and then I called him.  Just one name call and whoosh - there he was beside me.

I showed him what I wanted.  Two exercises in one.  Sit - and Leave.

I threw the "mouse" into the hall and he went helter skelter after it and YES - he brought it back to me.  There he is STANDING there with a fluffy mouse in his mouth, looking at me!!  I said Dante - SIT!!  Low and behold he planted his bum on the floor in a milli second - still with mouse in mouth.

We had a little break then and had a play around and he had some grub.  He always goes for a nap after food - just like a human baby.

When he woke up - he was rearing to go so, as I need to know as soon as possible, what he does know and what he needs to learn.  I had NOT taken the shot I should have at lunchtime, so I needed to know if Dante would "pick" up on this.

He "asked" to be let out to the garden to do his business, he came back in, started sniffing the air (Remy never did this) and then came to me and started to scrape my feet!!!

This is WONDERFUL for such a youngster PLUS he has the ability to still be a puppy in every other way.

I would MUCH prefer Remy's way of alerting which was to SPIN around and then bat my chest.  Dante's little nails really DO scratch - but it is fantastic to see such a young puppy doing a job that he was never trained to do and which comes naturally to him and hopefully, in time, we can mutually change the "alert" signal.

I am really proud of Dante.  For one so young, he is showing exceptional promise.

Sorry for the late post - but I have no control of the "electrical" problems - BUT you should ALL be just as proud of this little Forum Dog as I am.

More tomorrow - and hopefully with some more photos.

Well it is all too complicated for me!!! I can just about email. I had such a palaver trying to work out the PM thingy!!! Probably best to wait until Ditty has spoken to Fluffy.
I have just read through all this thread. I am sorry for the loss of Remy Annoca, but am really happy for you that Dante seems to be working out pretty much perfectly.

As for the keeping a copy of this thread. What I would do is Highlight, copy and paste it into Word, a page at a time. Don't forget to save the new Word document. You would be able to add further pages to the document as and when they cropped up and you would also then be able to amend/delete/rearrange the Word document at your leisure.

I am SO sorry everyone!!!  I have had power cuts and computer problems so haven't updated about Dante.

We are both fine and getting along very well.    Dante has been to both the doctor's surgery and the hospital to do his "meet and greet" and took it completely in his stride.

His mischievous side is becoming more obvious now.  I collect anything to do with elephants and owls and Dante has spotted some of them on the shelves.  He has worked out what level he can reach, and every opportunity he gets, he grabs an owl, )always the same one) and takes it to his little lair on the couch and tries to hide it under his frisbee, the stuffed rottweiler (which WAS mine, but according to the law of Dante is now HIS!!), his bone and the little white mouse.  He thinks it is hilarious when I go and get it and put it back on the shelf - he dances around with a grin on his face and a look in his eye which says "That's okay - until the next time!!"

Here are some photos which I hope you will enjoy.

Dante sends loads of love and kisses to all his forum friends.

Stoory - Sorry you can't see the photos.  I hope you can do so later.

Ditty - I know it is not a "point and laugh"!!  I have to say, in all honesty, Dante makes me laugh a LOT but I have to make sure he doesn't see me laugh, because he gets very offended.

Abo - GO to the top of the class and take your books with you!!!  You got it spot on!!  HE IS YAWNING!!!

It is all those Owl Hunts he has been on that has him worn to a frazzle.

is that what we call "checking for Mexicans".... our term for the obviously very urgent & important garden perimeter checks that must be conducted at 3am in the garden!

WOW Ditty!!!  That is good going!!!  Now you can go to the top of the class and take your books with you and join Abo!!!

Dante's Owl Hunt is to get my back turned and to grab an owl - always the same owl -off the shelf and bury it underneath his haul of toys in the lair he has buillt on the couch.

He is still too young to understand danger so the entire Irish Army, together with their massed brass bands could come in and he would be so delighted to see them he would insist on giving them all a big, slobbery kiss.
