Batten Down the Hatches

The Met Office has issued Northern Ireland with an amber weather warning as Hurricane Ophelia remains on course to hit Ireland and the UK on Monday.

The warning, of "potential danger to life", came as Ireland called a national emergency meeting.

Ophelia, on its way from the Azores in the Atlantic Ocean, is currently blowing winds of 105mph (113km/h).

The hurricane will be a storm when it hits the UK, exactly 30 years after the Great Storm of 1987 killed 18 people.

It is expected to bring severe winds and stormy conditions to parts of Ireland and the UK - with winds of up to 70mph (113km/h).

Up here, that's considered a light breeze!

On a serious note, stay safe everyone, especially if you have to go out and about.

Saint, it's thought that there's dust from the Sahara being blown across the country which may be causing the sky to have an unusual colour in parts of the country. Here it's just grey.

How bizarre - thanx - have noticed the on line BBC weather is changing by the hour. Quite worrying tbh

... and my Michael Fish comment was just poking fun

I've become James Corden

And still oddly a pale yellow tinge to the sky

Tinge <<< that's a good word

Sky has cleared now and sun is shining,  in fact it is a beautiful day except that the wind is really picking upAnyway , stay safe everyone , wherever you are in the country

Meanwhile in Newcastle it's brightened up alarmingly - no wind at all !!!

Yellow has gone and I've changed my brake fluid and added some power steering doo-dah

Thank you

Meanwhile in Central Scotland it's blowing a hoolie!

Ireland is expecting the worst storn in 50 years.

Yep thank you Michael Fish

Our sky is yellow .... anyone?

Ours was yellowish around that time too!

We didn't have anything yellow, just pitch dark black, twice!  it did lighten up in between but boy was it eerie   Like 1800's suff. Jack the Ripper comes to mind

It also was incredibly foggy and made everything damp and you couldn't see over the river to North Shields
