Now Ferrer seems to have gone off the boil and is threatening to give the next game to Murray.

 

However he manages to drag it to Advantage in his favour.

Murray plays a winner to get it back to Deuce then nets the next point to give Ferrer Advantage again. However Ferrer now puts it long - Deuce once more.

But Ferrer prevails in the end and wins the game.

Murray serving to stay in the match, but he just can't summon up the wherewithall and Ferrer takes the first two points of the game.

Murray manages to get the next point, but then gives the next to Ferrer.

 

Ferrer now looking at 2 match points. (40-15)

 

Murray drags one back (30-40)

 

But he hits it long on the next....and Ferrer is through to the semis, where he will meet Nadal.

So, what did Roland Garros give us today?

 

Not a lot initially, as it was raining and sufficiently so that the covers were on. Eventually though we get underway (over an hour late).

 

First match is Stosur v Errani.

 

Didn't get to see any of this match, but sounds as if it would have been well worth watching if I'd had the chance.

 

All scores will be given as (Stosur) - (Errani)

 

Stosur first to serve:-

Errani not getting much of a look-in here, but it wasn't a total 'stroll in the Park' for Stosur - she almost lost the first game and she had set point in the 6th, but lost it. Then even in the 7th game she had three set points and needed them all to finally take the set.

 

One set all now and into a decider.

0 - 3 (it's only one serice break though)

3 - 3 (and one service break back now)

3 - 5 (Errani breaks Stosur's serve again, to take the lead once more)

Friday 8/6/12 - Men's semi-finals.

 

First up is Nadal v Ferrer.

 

Scores shown as Nadal - Ferrer.

 

Ferrer to serve first

 

0 - 1 (game held to love)

1 - 1 (Ferrer took 2 points from Nadal)

1 - 2 (Easy hold for Ferrer again

2 - 2 (Ferrer actually had a break point here, but Nadal hold after the game goes to deuce 3 times)

3 - 2 (Nadal breaks the Ferrer service to love)

4 - 2 (Nadal holds his own service without a struggle)

5 - 2 (Once again Ferrer is broken to love)

6 - 2 (Ferrer manages to nab a couple of points from Nadal, but it is to no avail)

 

2nd set and it's Ferrer serving first again.

2 - 1 (Nadal falls over, but still manages to win)

3 - 1

4 - 1 (Ferrer begining to crumble under the Nadal onslaught. Is he about to be given a respite, as rain stops play?

 

55 minutes later and play resumes:-

 

5 - 1 (Looks like Nadal intends  to contine from where he left off!)

5- -2 (Ferrer manages to stop the rot, but is it too late?)

6 - 2 (Yes, 'fraid it WAS too late and Nadallookis just one set away from the final.)

 

3rd set, Ferrer has the honours again.

 

1 - 0 (Nadal romps into a 3 break point lead. Ferrer saves 2 of them but is overwhealmed in the end)

2 - 0 (Nadal holds to Love)

2 - 1 (A rare error by Nadal allows Ferrer to hold his serve.)

3 - 1 (Ferrer causing no problems for Nadal)

4 - 1 (Ferrer just can't find an answer to Nadal)

5 - 1 (Straight forward game again for Nadal)

6 - 1 (Valient effort from Ferrer to stay in the match, but it was always a losing battle. He did manage to bring the game to 30 all, but Nadal spectacularly won the next two points. Game, Set and Match to Nadal,)

 

Nadal wins 3 sets to love.

Well, a somewhat surprising result in the Djokovic - Federer match,

A set that looked a dead cert For Federer has been bagged by Djokovic. He now leads 2 sets to Love.

Well....who'd have thought that Djokovic would win in three straight sets? !

Well done Maria Sharapova! She now has the complete set of Grand Slam wins over her career - and may well go on to win more - such a class act when on top form.

 

I'm not convinced that Djokovic can complete this rare feat of holding all 4 Slams at the same time as Nadal is playing at his awesome best. My heart says Novak... but my head is saying Rafa!

Cold Sweat

Quick summary of the ladies final.

 

On paper you would think that it would be an easy win for Sharapova....her being seeded 2 while Errani is only seeded 21....and the results would suggest that too, being 6-3. 6-2.

 

However you have to take into account that Errani ha overcome all opposition and got to the final and also that she (along with partner of course) has one the Ladies Doubles Final.

And when you look at the statistics for the match you can see that Errani put up a fair degree of resistance. In fact, even in the last game, when she was staring defeat in the face, she managed to have a break point against Sharapova.

Most of the statistics are in Sharapova's favour, but Errani got more 1st serves in than Sharapova, she made fewer double faults, she made fewer errors over all and she won a slightly higher percentage of her break points.

Men's Singles Final

 

Djokovic wins the toss and elects to serve first....

 

,,,,and promptly loses his service. It goes to 0-40 before he pulls back to 30-40, but then loses the next two points.

 

Nadal follows by holding his serve to Love.

 

3rd game again goes to 30-40 before Nadal takes the next 2 point for another break of the Djokovic serve. 3-0 to Nadal.

Sharapova hits some amazing shots, but I wish she could do it without making those horrible noises every time. I find it off-putting and I bet her opponents do too.

 

Today's final is a mental battle between Nadal and Djokovic just as much as it is physical. Very interesting! At the moment Djokovic seems to be building in stature after a poor start. When he gets in the zone, he's just incredible.

Djokovic wakes up a bit and the Nadal serve goes to break poimt severel times before Djokovic finally takes it then holds his own serve, but only after Nadal forces him to give him two points.

 

3-2 to Nadal

 

But Djokovich breaks Nadal again to level the scores.

 

And as he takes the first point in the next game he is in the lead for the first time in the match, but promptly loses the next two points to fall behind again.

 

He claws it back to deuce, but then nets to give Nadal advantage, then double faults on serving the next point and hands the game to Nadal.

 

Nadal leads 4-3 with his own serve to come.

2nd game goes to deuce as well, and now Djokovic has Advantage on the Nadal serve. Nadal brings it back to deuce and then Advantage.

An instinctive shot from Djokovich puts it beyond Nadal and it's back to deuce again.

Finally though Nadal wins the next TWO points and now he's 2 games to love in the second set. Hairy moment though as he nets his first serve.

Djokovic now has 2 break points on the Nadal serve....and breaks back.

2 all in the second set.

 

But Nadal takes the first point of the Djokovic serve.

 

And it's raining slightly....

 

Another long rally, another long shot from Djokovic and it's 30-15 to Nadal.

 

Next two points to Djokovic and he's now serving to hold his serve - which he does after another longish rally.
