Good afternoon to all my lovely Freddie friends.    It's really quite hot here today!!

Yogi, I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better today.  Squiggle and Renton please don't worry.  I still won't understand if you've given away the ending of the film or not.  Anyway I often find if I'm watching a DVD, or reading a book for that matter, that I have to find out the ending before I finish watching or reading!!

Will catch up again later.

I've just googled Roman Holiday so I know all about the film without even having to watch it!! Sound good though so I may ask one of my sons if he can download it for me
William Wyler, who directed Roman Holiday, was one of the best of all Hollywood directors. Many of his films including this one have an air of honesty about them. You only need to see a list of the films he made to realise just how good he was.

I know just what you mean Yogi.  I've been beaming as I've read the banter between Squiggle and Renton.  I know the ending to the film now so there's no problem with anything that's been said!!!  I've asked No.2 son to see if he can find a download for me.

I'm signing out for tonight.  Won't be long before I find my bed.  Felt rather poorly last night and was sick before my head could hit the pillow (don't know why).  Hoping for a better night tonight.  Sleep tight Renton.  Looking through Squiggle's list there are SO many names I remember.  Where are they now?  This BB will not be the same without them.

Will catch up with you all again tomorrow.

"An air of honesty" ??
Yes, in some of William Wyler's films that is the case. As joyron now knows what happens in Roman Holiday, I'm not giving anything away in that the couple part at the end - they both are honest enough to realise that they cannot be together and that there cannot be a fairytale ending. Apart from Brief Encounter and Casablanca as the best known examples, most films would have created a more artificial ending like she renounces her position as princess.

Another one of William Wyler's films is Dodsworth (1936) based on Sinclair Lewis' novel. For its time it stands out as an honest look at a couple's failing marriage and their attempts to mend the cracks. It is not a famous film but it is an outstanding one. I saw it over 30 years ago on television and thought it one of the most mature films I have ever seen.

Good morning everyone.  No picture so far this morning as the site where they are kept is under maintenance.  Maybe later.  Hope its a good morning for everyone.  I hope you have all seen "An Affair to Remember" with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr.  That's the film that they refer to in "Sleepless in Seattle".  I loved that movie too, well both of them in fact.

I don't think I have ever seen Dodsworth but I loved Brief Encounter.
Morning folks!

It's worth trying to look out for Dodsworth. Because it's not a well known film, there have not been sufficient votes cast for it to appear on the IMBD list of top 250 films, but based on its' rating by those who have seen it, it would be in about 50th place.
