I wanted to buy one of those hats in Austria that men wear with the little feather sticking out - but made the mistake of saying it was for me and I was told it's frowned upon   should have had the sense to say it was for a bloke 

I was told by this Austrian bloke who was chatting me up that in years gone by, goatherds to show their virility used to climb mountains to get the chin whiskers from goats and put them in those hats hence the tradition of the little feathery bits poking out - don't know if it's true but he had me in knots laughing at him as I couldn't take it seriously
