the land is going to get so overgrown and unkept when they are'nt staying there.
and swimming pools take lots of upkeep...

I notice the cables outside looked very basic.
I know some rural places round here don't even have proper sewerage, they have cesspits. So I am guessing they might have that too.

Yes, they will defo have cesspits ….and probably have to rely on oil , or gaz , for heating and cooking etc
