Britain's Sunday newspapers showed no sympathy for England goalkeeper Robert Green after his blunder allowed the United States to equalise in their group C encounter which ended 1-1.

The News of the World, Sunday Mirror and Independent all used the headline, "Hand of Clod" with the Sunday Mirror adding, "Tainted Glove" and the News of the World exclaiming, "Stars and Tripe".

"Green Fingers," read the Sunday Times, while the Mail on Sunday simply lead with, "Calamity".

I know it's not funny but Tainted Glove made me smile

While England are better than they showed last night, they are still average.  I think they will definitely qualify but there is now no guarantee they will get top spot. Rooney wasn't in it at all last night, Heskey is a complete dead weight, Crouch looked promising when he came on, he should have been introduced earlier. Lennon and Glen Johnson looked good going forward but it seems to be if Rooney doesn't play well England don't play well.

Nobdy is talking about his fantastic save in the 50th min. If the goal hadn't happened, that's all the papers would be shouting about today, in the event, no real mention of it.

I felt a lot of pity for Green, but to say England would have won with Hart or James is also untrue, I mean they could have gave away a penalty, messed up a dodgy back pass etc. He did well, and his kick-outs were good.

But on the note of Goal keepers, the USA keeper made some awesome saves.

It really wasn't a fantastic save though. It looked good in real time until you see it in slow motion He fumbled it again and was saved by the post

He's not the reason England didn't win though. Too many average performances aside from Gerrard, Heskey (who was really good everywhere except where you need him to be great in front of goal) and Johnston wasn't bad going forward but still goes missing at the back
