Re the horns: I think they ruin the atmosphere not add to it. I like to hear the singing and chanting at matches.
Although the England fans managed to make themselves heard over them for a while

Lol at ITV calling that shot just now by Rooney as audacious and brilliant!! I'd call it ball greedy and off target

I think during the game they make for a good atmosphere, I just don't like them when I'm trying to listen to the news.
I would rather hear the crowds cheering and chanting - there is nothing like a collective "ohhhhhhhh" when a goal is missed.
The human factor has gone with all that noise.

Another two games to play.....just need to come top of our group to progress....A draw gets us a point, a win gets three
Former Member
Thanks Onetoo - so it is not the end of the world but the pressure is on us now presumerably to win the next one.
Apparently in the 1966 world cup we had a goaless draw in the very first game so early days I guess.

Second also would do it, but it's better to win obviously

The top two teams in each group progress. However: if either England or Germany comes second in their group, rather than them both finishing top (as the seedings would predict) then they'll play each other in the next round...
Oh well, what is there to say?
The old fools fault for not taking Adam Johnson, the only left footed player who can cross a ball, can take on a player and isnt injury prone.
You can't play SWP on the left either.
Im pretty sure at least ÂĢ10mil should now be knocked off Villas asking price for Milner.

That'll be interesting. Wonder how Germany will cope with no Ballack. Germany always come good in finals and Australia will fight until the last minute.Should be a good one

A little O/T, but a friend is getting married on the 26th, which will mean her reception will overlap England's 2nd-round game (if they top their group). I haven't the heart to tell her that it could be even worse...She's actually Australian-born, and some of her family will be coming over for the wedding. Although unlikely, it's just possible that England will be playing the Aussies...

I've been dropping hints at work for weeks about having the 23rd off, but for one reason or another I haven't been able to finalise dates. I did yesterday and asked for that day off.went to boss and he says (cos I want three days) the only day in question is that one as someone has to go to Sheffield (head office) and he's off
I saw Doctor Who after the match, and thought England could have done with him in the match - he scored 8 goals (for those who don't watch this, he landed up by participating in a match between two local pub teams.
And Matt Smith who plays Doctor Who can genuinely play football. Wikipedia has:
"He planned to be a professional football player, having played for the youth teams of Northampton Town F.C., Nottingham Forest F.C. and Leicester City F.C. " He only switched to acting following a back injury.
