i've put on more weight since i came off the injection

I also had that contraceptive injection after my second son was born (got 3) and I really put on weight with it.
I was depressed and all the doctors were saying was exercise, eat healthy etc. Back then (2002-2003) I was at the gym all the time, practically living off porridge, cerial yet I still couldn't shift it.
I kept harrassing the doctor and it was him who finally said to change contraception and the difference was almost instant I noticed my clothes getting looser but thought it was just me til peoplke started commenting on how much weight i'd lost.
Don't get me wrong, i'm the same, i've NEVER been skinny at all, usually always about a 12-14 roughly but I too went up to about a 16-18. I know it's not huge but it was big for me.
I would try and change your contraception if you can link it to that. I was trying so hard to lose weight and couldn't yet with hardly trying when I cme off the jag I started to lose weight.
The old saying though, don't do crash diets, you'll put it all back on plus more,
yes ive got rid of the jag and dont get it anymore but with the same routine in life day in day out ive got myself into a bit of a slump and just cant seem to find the will power, ive got myself an exersize climber thing and i jump on it everday for a few mins then get off where i know i should stay on a lot longer and push myself more but i give in to easily, i just need a good kick up the arse if im honest, personally i think id do much better if i had someone like a triner who would shout at me and push me to do better lol like the guy from that boot camp show if anyones seen that

I'm with you Mike I refuse to use the 'D' word I always say healthy eating plan, not just for me but for my kids I don't want them caught up in dieting but healthy eating I will promote all the way.
Are personal trainers not expensive though? I would like a personal trainer but not someone to say "right make this for breakfast, dinner and tea" but I like exercise.
I just wish there was something to keep us fit while we post

I think personal trainers are mostly expensive.
I have a running buddy. We meet a couple of times a week to run, and the rest of the time we are on our own. It helps to get me out the door--if you've set the time, you have an appointment, and you can't just sleep in. She's a cheap trainer.

Me and my Sis in Law go power walking, we look daft but it helps

That's the way to go though, plug in the earphones if your on your own with something upbeat then away you go. I used to be paranoid about going to the gym thinking everyone would have perfectly sculpted bodies but it's not like that at all, we're all there for the same reason
As long as it makes you feel better that's th main thing. When I walk I think I must just naturally power walk cos I really take off
well I will be honest with you all as you have all shared here...

it wasn't even the eating plan i was feeling down about lol was just feeling a bit lonely and fed up and my first instinct was to head to the cupboard (which i am sure a lot of us can identify with) But i am going to see her on tuesday and we are taking her dog to the beach one night this week (which will be strange as last time i was at the beach with a dog was my own little angel on the day she damaged her leg forever)

I do know how hard it is to not go with what is the norm for you to comfort yourself. I think my biggest problem was that I didn't communicate what I was feeling or going through. maybe having someone close to communicate with will help us break our habits and make us healthier people. I know if it hadn't been for you lot and one very special friend I would not have been as successful with my no smoking or my weight.
That walk is going to be difficult for you but hopefully you'll come back with alot of happy memories of past wlks you had with her there.
We are always here for you and I for one am willing to listen no matter how silly you may think it seems

now don't do yourself down. You say you jump on it for a few minutes every day, that's quite good. You say you should stay on it longer, but tell me this, when you come off is your pulse/heartbeat increased? Is your breathing deeper? If so then you're doing fine, also excercise 'adds up' as long as you don't go more than 3 days between excercise periods. So dont worry if you're not staying on the machine for long each day. Remember, with a lot of excercisers you are working against your own body weight, so the heavier you are the more of an effort it's going to be, but as the excess weight gradually comes off the easier it will get to do the excercising and the longer you'll be able to sustain the effort.
EFFT you are very knowledgable, are you a nutritionist or something?
Hi TiGi, it's kind of you to say so. No I'm not a nutritionist. but I've just read a lot about health, nutrition, dietetics, anatomy and physiology and seen bits in action and so see the similarities and differences between various methods.
Lucky you Mike! I just use the leisure centre's which are not as expensive as the posh ones.
Hope Tuesday goes well

You really seem to know your stuff and always offer excellent advice.
I've got my weight-in tomorrow. I feel thinner this week so fingers crossed it's a good week.
Hope you all have a good week people!
I think Fluffy is a counselor.
Good luck, Mike! Can't wait to hear how the appointment goes.
A page and a half ago (sorry--I had a busy weekend) there was talk of earphones. When I run by myself, I listen to podcasts (funny ones, mostly ). That helps to get me out the door.

Feeling good about yourself can almost be half the battle.quote:I feel thinner this week so fingers crossed it's a good week.
If you feel good you're more likely to keep going, even do more than the minimum required. If you feel lousy about yourself your motivation will be low as well as your mood and doing ANYTHING will seem like an uphill struggle.
Ever felt hungry or thirsty, but could barely make the effort to get up and get something? That's your low mood that's mainly responsible for that.
Hope your weigh-in goes well.

i have a go faster playlist on my i-pod ... although i have to be careful... for some strange reason Runrigs Loch lomond with the tartan army doesn't only make me go faster it makes me march down the street
I had to put a lid on the funnies with my hadphones though, was walking up to work one morning listening to Billy Connolly and was ending myself laughing, it was 6am so i thought i was alone but at one point i had to stop i was laughing so hard and a little dog sniffed at my feet, turned round and there was a rather scared looking man behind me
I find it diificult to do things 'parrot-fashion', I always have to go and find out WHY we should do certain things or why we should do them one way as opposed to another. I also feel it is much easier to motivate yourself to do something if you understand a bit about how things work. That's where the anatomy and physiology comes in very handy.quote:You really seem to know your stuff....
It's my weigh in day at the fatty club tomorrow, not sure how I feel this week, last week I felt really good about going, and had lost 4.5lbs, but this week I am feeling rather despondent.

That's very funny (both the marching and the laughing). One of the podcasts I listen to is a "news game show", and I often find myself answering the questions out loud. Luckily, I run very early in the morning, so there aren't typically people about to notice.
Cinds: Good luck tomorrow! Keep your chin up, and let us know how it goes.
Cheers! If you see me loitering in this thread tomorrow, you'll know I did ok. If I am missing, it means it wasn't good, and I'll probably be scoffing a doughnut.

Oh, no! If you DON'T do OK, you'll need our support! COME ANYWAY!!
I've decided to take 50 helium filled balloons to the weigh in.

I too find it difficult to do things 'parrot-fashion' which makes me an unparroty-parrot
