Major dieting and exercise will be commencing ASAP Eeker
Fairy, the thing with weighing yourself is to NOT do it in a hap-hazzard way. Your weight can vary by up to 8 pounds in a day depending on what you have (or haven't Wink ) been doing, eating, wearing and such. So you should ideally only weigh yourself (at most) once a week. This weighing should be, as near as possible, at the same time and day each week and under the same circumstances. Valentine

If you've really got a seriously large amount to lose then it is probably best NOT to try and shift too much at one go (unless we're talking about life threatening amounts, but then you should be under medical supervision) as a sudden sharp decrease in intake of calories could trigger your body into famine mode. A gradual decrease in ibtake and a gradual increase in 'excercise' may mean a bit longer to shift the fat/weight, but is less likely to trigger your body into PROTECTING its fat reserves.

Hi, all: mind if I join you in this thread? All my life I've struggled with my weight, and the older I get, the harder it gets to take it off or keep it off.

I'm a runner, but I'm not sure you could tell by looking at me. Frowner

I think I've recently figured out that my current problem is because we moved our offices close to a food court, full of yummy and unhealthy choices. So, there's a place that makes green salads with chicken. I bought a box of Kraft Light Ranch Reduced Dressing in little packets (single serving). So, I ask for my salad with no dressing, and then I put my own (portion-controlled) dressing on the salad. So far, so good. Smiler

morning all, how's everyone doing?

fridays and saturdays are usually my downfall days, but i'm going to at the very least aim for a healthy lunch today.
tuesday night i did a yoga class,
wednesday did nothing (baaaaaad headache)
and last night, i jumped on the cross trainer

slightly dissappointing because of wednesday but it could be worse..

keep taking it one day at a time folks, and keep smiling x

Have you tried the WW site. I am following the WW healthy eating plan (I refuse to say diet!), but as I have a diabetic in the family I have to be careful what I cook, they have lots of recipes that can be used for diabetics that are point counted. Hope this is of some use.

I wondered if you could get those.
Weight Watchers used to make them, but I couldn't find the WW ones this time.

You are allowing yourself one or two days off, aren't you? It's easier to stay motivated to work out regularly if you give yourself a day off for "rest and recovery". Smiler

Can you Hula-hoop Scrum? That's another great way to help lose a few pounds and inches...and tone a few abdominal muscles as well. Non-impact excercise too. Unless you lose your balance and fall over. Laugh

To be honest I never weigh myself. I just go with how my clothes feel. I'm about a size 12-14 on the bottom and 14-16 on top Roll Eyes (queer shape I am) and i'm 5ft4.

Sometimes I think I don't look too huge, other days I feel like a whale Eeker

To be honest thoug I never diet, just have everything in moderation and I REFUSE to pay to go to a diet class for someone to tell me "exercise, drink plenty water, eat fruit & veg"

I used to do alot of working out in the gym and actually bulked up a few years ago and since I cut right back but kept walking, cycling and now practice yoga I stayed toned but lost the "gladiator" look Thumbs Up

I still say everything in moderation though. However I will have a proper look at this thread soon, I love all the tips, some of them are really good, just not the word DIET. Frowner

With regards to paying to join a diet class, there is a little more to it than what you say but if you REFUSE to join such a group you probably do not realise that the main thing on offer is group support. We all know what we should be doing but what many of us need is the tools to be able to carry it out and this is where the support of a group comes in.

i agree with what you say... the class leader is wonderful. If you've had a bad week she says well just get back to it and if you aren't losing and really can't see why she gives little hints and tells you to keep your food diary and she goes over it with you the following week.

Absolutely. Personally I coudn't lose without without going to some sort of class, I need the support and the weigh-in once a week to keep things in check. Big Grin

Oh I didn't mean to offend anyone on here who goes to diet classes Red Face I just meant I personally wouldn't go to one but as you say, some people need more will power than others so I can see how classes would help with the weelky weigh in etc.

Don't get me wrong, if I really wanted to lose weight I could as there's room for improvement in my diet too but I just know when to put the chocci bars down - sometimes!! Eeker

Ah well here's hoping we can all shed the required pounds. A tip I heard is that if you've got a sweet tooth drink vanilla tea or use a vanilla smelling air freshner or oil in a burner Thumbs Up

Im struggling now with my weight, ive never been thin but at my smallest i was a size 14 but that was yrs ago, i went on the pill and got the jag in the butt, which was good as a contraceptive but bad for bloating and i gained weight went to a size 16/18, which was actually not that bad as i carried it well and thought i still looked ok, but then a few yrs later i fell pregnant and obviously gained more weight and the night before i gave birth i had my last cig and done well lasted 3 yrs but struggled to get rid of the weight i gained while being pregnant, i started smoking again a couple of yrs back i know i shouldnt have but u know how it is sometimes u get down or stressed out and u turn to something for comfort or for whatever reason, anyway ive never been an over eater but i dont eat properly, i dont eat anything during the day till usually about tea time and i know thats wrong also but i havent got an appetite at all in the morning or early afternoon, my childs now 6 and a bit of a handful and i work 2 pt jobs and cant seem to find free time for myself to exercize or maybe its that i just dont have the will power but im hoping it kicks in soon, i just turned 30 recently and think maybe i hit a mid life crisis lol as my weight wasnt really a problem before but it is now i hate seeing myself in the mirror or in photos, the weights coming of slowly as ive lost 2 stone in the last 2 yrs but i just wish it would happen a bit faster, i need to lose another 2 at least, anyway if anyone knows of a free personal trainer pls send him my way, anyway hope everyone in the same boat as me finally gets down to the size that makes them happy
Thingy
I also had that contraceptive injection after my second son was born (got 3) and I really put on weight with it.

I was depressed and all the doctors were saying was exercise, eat healthy etc. Back then (2002-2003) I was at the gym all the time, practically living off porridge, cerial yet I still couldn't shift it.

I kept harrassing the doctor and it was him who finally said to change contraception and the difference was almost instant Eeker I noticed my clothes getting looser but thought it was just me til peoplke started commenting on how much weight i'd lost.

Don't get me wrong, i'm the same, i've NEVER been skinny at all, usually always about a 12-14 roughly but I too went up to about a 16-18. I know it's not huge but it was big for me.

I would try and change your contraception if you can link it to that. I was trying so hard to lose weight and couldn't yet with hardly trying when I cme off the jag I started to lose weight.

The old saying though, don't do crash diets, you'll put it all back on plus more, Roll Eyes
