whats a good wholemeal bread ...????

I like Warburtons. As for calories, because of what bread is made from, you're not going to find a huge variety of difference between brands unless you change the size (surface area) and/or thickness of slice.

Warburtons medium sliced wholemeal is 93 calories per slice, but those 93 calories have a better nutritional value than 93 calories of crisps or biscuits. Smiler

For Mike (sorry for going OT--it's temporary, I promise!)

And I LOVE crumpets! Smiler
But are they Scottish crumpets or English ones? Big Grin

Oh! I have no idea! But they were delicious! There is a crumpet shop down here at Pike Place Market, and one of my co-workers has a weakness for crumpets, so she'd buy a dozen and bring them in.
Lori

Never heard of that Lori, what is it?

The Gabriel Method
The main idea is that we eat so many processed foods that our body is starved for nutrients that we aren't getting, hence it's turned on all of our "fat switches", making us fatter no matter what we do. You still have to eat well ("real foods" that are not processed), but he says that if you just ADD the real foods, eventually you will crave them, and not the processed stuff, and you'll slim down.

There's also a fair amount of visualization involved....

Wow he looks totally different so it must work!

Losing weight is all about lifestyle change isn't it. I find I'm eating more fresh stuff, and less convenience food. Amazing how much better you feel for doing that, less lethargic, the skins better, less fluid retention.

See, that's it, isn't it?
He also recommends you take probiotics, digestive enzymes, get lots of omega-3, etc, etc. I feel like I'm taking a pill cocktail in the morning. Laugh

Yes, it's more to do with the quality and nutritional value of the calories we eat rather than just directly the number of them.
The more good nutritional calories we eat, the less likely we are to overeat, without having to count the calories.

yes, in theory but it doesn't matter how good the nutritional value of the food consumed, if the head is not in the right frame of mind then might as well forget counting the callories etc cos it just won't work

Have you seen THIS Article?

Overall it comes accross to me as saying "If you don't over-eat or binge eat and eat nutritious food, you'll be healthier than if you do over/binge eat and have less nutritious food." Well, isn't that what we're all attempting to do, not over/binge eat and keep it as healthy and nutritious as possible?

What do you think? Or am I just cynical?

Well. Personally, I'm not wanting to look like EITHER of those monkeys. Wink

I think it is what we are all TRYING to do. The issue is that some people are better at it than others. Frowner

Well done pg!

Since my back op, the motivation to lose weight (and therefore put less strain on my back) has never gone. It's been 4 weeks now and I still have no interest in crisps and chocolate.

I've been writing down everything I eat, and keeping to around 1500 calories a day, and the weight is coming off nicely.

I was seriously thinking of asking for a gastric band before my back thing and now I'm not heavy enough to even be considered for one - I have found the silver lining to my ouchy back!
